I'm going to an Air Show this July 3rd and 4th!

Post by Dash » Tue Jun 21, 2005 12:54 am

Hello everyone! My parents have allowed me to go to this air show ALONE in Battle Creek, Michigan, which is about 1.5 hours from my home. It goes on for 3 days, starting July 2nd. I'm going on the third and 4th and this means I will see the Tbirds twice (yes, the the full show TWICE). If you are interested, look here!: http://www.bcballoons.com/airshow.htm and here!: http://www.bcballoons.com/schedule.pdf . Well, what I wanted to really tell you guys, or ask I should say, is this: Is there anything anyone wants me to get for them? There are autograph sessions so I will meet the Tbird guys, I will take many many pictures as well, so I will deffinetly post those when it's all over. I don't know if there is anything someone wants me to take a picture of specifically but now is the time to ask! Just wanted to share the great news! I'm psyched! (sp?) lol, Dash OUT!

Ah, Dash. I'll never forget the time I met the Blues (T-birds don't land at local shows). I still have the business card from George Dom (then lead of the team) that he gave me when my mom blurted out that I was almost an Eagle Scout at age 13, promising a lithograph....good times good times.

My advice is this. Thank them for the show. Shake a hand, get an autograph...and don't ask too many questions of the poor guys...shoot they just pulled 6 g's and now they are getting bombarded by 10 year olds. ;-) Bask in the moment for me. I wish I could join ya.

Hey thanks for the advice, you are right, I'm sure they are quite tired. You know, I could have guessed that you are an eagle just from ur picture under your name. As a matter of fact, I am working on my project at the moment and hope to have my eagle by the end of the summer! However, I am not 13..that is quite impressive! (what's quite pathetic is that I still need to complete three Merit Badges..still). I'm just curious, how old are you and are you planning on flying in real life in your future, or do you currently? Later!

btw, nice flying with you for the first time last night!

Wow Dash,

You are the third Eagle (that I know of) on this board. I got mine in 2001 from Troop 287 (doo dee doo dee doo) San Jose Ca. Great flying with you too...but you actually looked good at what you were doing in contrast to myself ;-) I didn't end up getting my eagle at 13 unfortunately....I got lazy. But I DID get it and that is all that matters. I got a really nice commendation letter from the Thunderbirds Boss. He wrote a long letter (with my name in about 4 places) and then after exhorting me to a life of service and such, he mentioned that his Eagle medal was hanging on the wall in his office in the Thunderbirds' Hangar. Best letter I got. Not only did he congratulate me and tell me what it meant to be an eagle, he personalized it and made it clear that he knew what he was talking about. I still get chills when I read it.

Anyway, yes I plan to fly. I'm 21. I think you mentioned Naval Academy last night? I was in the admissions process for Pensacola as well when I was your age. But alas, I decided that I didn't want to be that far from my future family for that long of a time (alot can happen at home during three months at sea). I am currently in USAF ROTC at San Jose State University. I don't fly yet, but I WILL. The current plan is to finish my first two years of ROTC at State, and then after completing my bachelor's degree, I hope to attend medical school, and then attend USAF Flight Surgeon Residency Training. I figure this serves the purpose of paying for med school (they pay 90% of loans), and is my surest bet at getting stick time in anything fun. The current Flight Surgeon in the Tunderbirds has logged over 300 hours in the HH-60 and the F-16D. Granted he's babysat while flying but that's still a heck of a deal. It'd be a dream come true to serve as T-bird No. 9...but we shall see.

Sorry for writing a book on here ;-) What's your project? Do you have a plan to get those three merit badges done? How long before you are 18 (I think you said you are 17)? Good luck to you. Don't give up on Eagle, and whatever you do, don't tell yourself you have plenty of time. You don't. ;-)

Oh thanks a lot for the response, I really took that what you said to heart, I mean I know I do not have to time to fiddle around. I am 16 and I will be a junior next year in High School. For my project, I plan to construct a bunch of bike racks and place them at the Elementary, Middle, and High Schools as well as at the various parks around my community. It's quite simple. I'm glad you asked what my plan to completing the 3 merit badges is because I really havn't thought about when I will do that, since my eagle has taken major priority over many things I do. I guess I just need to do like one a week, for a couple weeks. That's the only way, plus it's summer, there isn't a better time to do it!

But yea, I deffinetly appreciate the response, it got me thinking again, because every day counts in this time in my life. I gottu pick up my sister at her tennis so I gottu go, we'll chat some more later I'm sure

btw, this is what I love about flight simmers, is they are not fat slobs (sry if ur a fat slob), but they are focused on what they want to do in life and they DO it. It's a completely different type of breed than the other gamers.

ok ok, I'm out!

I'm 21, 5' 6" and 120 lbs...am I fat? Do I look fat? Dangit now I'm paranoid ;-) Man I miss scouts. What badges do you have left? Do you have your requireds done?

Yeah, best advice I can give you is don't put things off. And you're right, it's a very pivotal time you are in, and you have huge opportunities ahead of you, as long as you stay motivated and focussed. Keep me posted on that. Sounds like a good project. Look forward to flying with you again.

p.s. check my myspace website and tell me if I'm fat ;-)
