Now that guy did it the right way. He was obviously in no shape to be pulling sustained g's but still hung with it and was having fun the whole ride. At the end of the video his last words were he'd do it again in a heart beat- that's an incentive ride well spent.

Another note, the blue angels use the 'hook' because they, unlike most fighter pilots, do not use G suits. I had a DVD of theirs at one point that explained the reasoning, but it was something to the likes of them not thinking that it was a good thing for these suits to be constricting on them because they pull G's constantly. F-15/F-16 Incentive rides are much easier because you get a G suit.

The Blues don't use a G-Suit b/c of the F-18's center-stick set up. In order to isolate their wrist for formation flying they rest their forearm on their right thigh. If under high Gs the suit were to inflate it would induce movement via their thigh/forearm into their hand. Hence they do not fly with a G-suit. As to why a reporter doesn't get to have one IDK, maybe they don't have them in the squad supplies, maybe they just like being bada$$es- who knows.

Hehe - this guy does a lot better from an intestinal fortitude point of view - plus the maneuvering was harder.

Highlight for me in this one was one of his quotes... "squeeze your legs, and say something that sounds like Hook"!! LMAO - no wonder he took so many naps! Obviously wasn't listening in the brief ...saying the word "hook" (which is exactly what it looks like he did) isn't going to help you stay awake any more than saying the word "teapot" - lol

Great stuff :D

Nice video. The pilot's voice sounds a bit like Russ Burtlett to me.

I wonder why do the Blue Angels fly without oxygen masks?

None of these teams fly high enough where pressurized breathing becomes an issue and the Thunderbirds too would likely choose to fly without masks if it was a choice (the Vipers have an oxygen depriving device in the cockpit). Bottom line is that it's a choice for the Blue Angels and they prefer the boom mics and comfort of not wearing a mask over using them. I'd hate to see the aftermath from a punching out though...

Lt David sounds just like all the other Angel jocks incl. both Cmdr Bartlett and Cmdr Foley when he demonstrates the maneuvers and cadence during these rides. He sounds professional!

This is a quote mentioned by Grab, at FO's forum, when talking about the same subject...

We have toyed with the idea of losing the masks but in the end we fly a single engine jet with an Emergency Power Unit that runs off Hydrazine(terrible stuff). Not wearing the mask would violate an emergency procedure that states 100% O2 with the EPU on.

YEah that guy from the first video cracked me up.. " Im scared... I dropped my gum... Im surprised he didnt beg for mommy... HA HA....No anytime I hear anyone say " I dropped my gum" Ill prolly think of that...But at least he got the ride... It would have been better in a Red, White and Blue jet though. GO THUNDERBIRDS!!!!

 I remember seeing several videos on Blue Angel rides where the pilots tell them to say "hick" or in their case "hiiiiiickkkkkkkk". Doesn't that help to make the blood stay in your head? First time I went up in a fighter it helped quite a bit. I wonder what they would want you to say during negative g's though...

I think the proper thing to say during negative G's would be "OUCH!!!", though I doubt they'd have to prep the journalists on that one

They're technically saying 'hook', though I doubt 'hick' vs. 'hook' makes a difference though. :)
