How about starting another team?
How about starting another team?
I see a lot of people here interested in applying for a backup position. I think we should take it among ourselves to try to form up a backup team. It would be well worth it while we're all waiting for the big call. It does neither any of us, or any of them any good if we don't start attempts to be proficient until we get the call from them. At least here, we would be able to practice a little bit and try to get ourselves off the ground and in the air without as many near misses. If anyone's interested, hit me back, and let's try to sort out the details. No sense in waiting until game day to start training.

I don't think a backup team is needed, we're considering expanding the roaster to more than 8 depending on the tryouts.
I would encourage those that want to practice b/f tryouts to post when you'll be available, and your own contact info. Read our SOP's on the virtualthunderbirds.com site to get an idea of what to practice, of course if you're just starting you're going to want to just do some join ups and simple turns

WAAAAAAYYYY OUT OF CONTEXT.
Hey fellas, this wasn't meant to be stepping on anyone's toes, I was just saying, it makes no sense to try to wait until then to fly with other people. How about this, I'll reword it for everyone. How about we form up assemblies to try to pull off some of the stuff that these guys are already doing, and try to get familiar with the SOP. Not a replacement team. More or less, like a training function where candidates can clan up and try to pull it off before we try to pull it off with these guys for real. The worst that can happen is that we happen to get a little good ourselves. The offer is out there, and I'm flexible if anyone's got time to get it rolling.

Practice is definitely a must, so in that respect I think everyone who's considering trying out should get as much stick time as possible before flying with us! Start with the easy stuff, like joining up in straight and level, nice and easy turns. You might not think so right now, but many people find it a lot harder than it what it first appeared to be when they fly with us for the first time.
While we obviously cannot prevent anyone else from creating another Thunderbirds team, but we ask that you don't do it using our mod or becoming a copy cat of our work. Besides, I don't mean this in any condescending way, however our reputation precedes us and it would take a monumental effort to get the same recognition if using the same team as a real-life counterpart. I do however, encourage everyone interested specifically in the Thunderbirds to soak up as much knowledge about the team and their maneuvers (show) as possible and practice with our mod as much as you'd like (whether it involves flying solo or joining others online)! Whether it leads to a spot on the team or just having a blast on your own is up to you! As soon as we get the mod ready for version 1.1 we'll release it and as mentioned elsewhere here, that's what we'll be using for the tryouts.
Like Burner said, we're thinking about expanding the roster. That doesn't mean it will be any less competitive to make the team seems like, given the large amount of interest shown lately. Our current team (contrary to what the "history" on our website might suggest) is an extremely dedicated team and every member has more insight into the Thunderbirds than just being able to fly close formation. However, having said that, flying tight is the foundation for joining, but we also look for general knowledge about the real Thunderbirds. How they fly their show and do their maneuvers! A combination of knowing this and flying skills is a very good starting point for a positive tryout!
We will discuss the possibility of an expansion further down the road and by the time we get around for tryouts we'll announce this (if it's something we decide to go ahead with).
In the mean time, all I have to say to people interested is: Go for it! Pick up some formation flying on your own spare time. We are definitely support those kind of efforts and this is the reason the mod is available for every average Joe in the first place.

Dude, great idea, though someone already has a team. But, do your homework! The slot position in the blues is, and has been since the corps inception, a marine corps position.BlueAngel wrote:FL/CO #01 Cmdr., U. S. Navy

Met a few in Corpus last week after a winging. As a side note, Maj Mueller hits like a girl.
