If you are having problems running Lock-On (harddrive overload, not enough memory, bad fps, seemingly laggy... etc) you might want to give this article a try to see if it is a background program in Windows that might be the cause?
How to perform a clean boot to prevent background programs from interfering with play (this way you can work backwards and eliminate the causing factor, if there is one).

Clean boot (disabling background programs)
Hmm, Lawndart, I tried the first couple steps that Microsoft gave from your links to perform a clean boot, but one of the steps requires me to "disable" some programs such as anti-virus, video device DRIVERS, joystick profiles, etc. I do not understand, if I disable these, sure I might get better frames in LOMAC, but I will get virus's, my video card won't work, and my joystick will go a-wall. Is this process simply to eliminate variables one by one, so that you can find out exactly what is causing a problem? The reason I'm asking, is because like everyone else, I could use a couple frames, but I'd like to be able to fly with my joystick, and not my mouse

Re: Clean boot (disabling background programs)
Think I'll quote myself on this one.
I do turn off things such as auto-update, anti-virus, Win firewall (useless), internet security or anything that could slow down connection speed or randomly start chewing the harddrive while flying. I use some of these while not flying, but we do or die when it comes to lag!

I don't disable a whole lot of things when I fly, but if you have problems it's a way to troubleshoot and identify at what point the game starts getting sluggish, by enabling background ops one by one.LawnDart wrote:...this way you can work backwards and eliminate the causing factor, if there is one.
