Recommended Addons for FSX

Post by Ells » Wed Mar 28, 2007 7:53 am

I'm getting FSX for my birthday and wondered what addons to get.
Can anyone recommend some good free and payable ones.

Fighter jets preferable, but commercial is good too.

Ells.

http://www.fsgenesis.com has an awesome terrain mesh upgrade that is well worth the money. I haven't tried the World one just the North America upgrade. I know many people who have purchased this and have been very satisfied with the differences.

Check out http://www.AVSIM.com for reviews on addons free and payware for FSX.

Cool thanks guys, I'll check them out.

I've already got this on order:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Flight-Deck-Add ... 835&sr=1-3

Flightdeck 4
Manufacturer's Description
Flight Deck 4 represents an all-new Carrier Operations product. This time the USS Ronald Reagan is your base of operations. During launch, a powerful catapult will have you airborne in just a few seconds. In recovery, your tail hook needs to catch the steel cable to bring your muscular aircraft to a screeching halt.
Flight Deck 4 uses an all-new simplified catapult launch and recovery system. You'll soon see why cable recovery on the short flight deck is both thrilling and nerve wracking.

The Launch
Hurry onto the deck. Its launch time and you're next in line. Taxi into position over the catapult. The launch team connects you. Set your brake. From his crouching position the yellow-jacketed shooter gives you the thumbs up. Shove the throttle forward and release the brakes. The catapult slams you to the back of your seat. Before you know it, you're hanging over the deck's edge.

The Recovery
Flying over the sea, the flight deck is barely perceptible over the blue water. Drop down and your home base comes into view. The LSO orders you to lose altitude. Fly past and do a 180degree turn. Flaps down and throttle back. Your fingers tighten around the stick. Line her up. The LSO gives you the green. Hold steady, Over the edge, the tail hook catches the cable. You're jolted to a screeching halt as your helmet bangs against the back of your seat. You're down.

Back in the day when I flew FS, I used to use FD3, which I thought was a lot better than FD4. For some reason, FD4 totally messed up my graphics, and for some reason, a bunch of the aircraft that I was able to "trap" with FD3 don't trap at all for some reason in FD4.

lol Rhino, well I'm 34 years young on the 28th, so maybe a little more than 10?

Starts wondering if I'm one the old wrinklies around here??

Yeah LD, me very much a pc games geek, but will have to wait until Xmas for a bigger screen, or a new snowboard, hmmm what is the higher priority here, sims or snow.

Snow wins I'm afraid, but I'm sure I can convince my wife we need a bigger pc screen hehe
