Traceroute-, Ping- and DNS Lookup

Post by Lawndart » Thu May 25, 2006 5:14 am

This site allows you to test your ping to any IP or DNS (web address), it also will give you the traceroute (or route your data travels). It's useful for testing your connection to websites, game hosts, dedicated hosts and also finding the bottleneck or where a problem occurs if any.

I'm currently using it to trace the root of the problem with our site's slowdowns recently, but it's also helpful for anyone trying to figure out their latency or where along the route their data gets held up when experiencing consistent lag in Lock-On for instance, which is why I thought it may come in handy for some.

Most of these tools are in CMD, but it's usefull when CMD is desactivated, besides being more complete a little bit, i guess they're diferent and depends on the situation you are on, i still think doing this by CMD is more flexible tho.

a powerfull PING tool is the linux ping tool, i heard it has a very very powerfull ping, good for ping floods =).
