X-Team Leader Killed in Accident @ Dayton Air Show

Post by Lawndart » Sun Jul 29, 2007 2:18 am

Yet another tragic accident at the air show circuit this year happened Saturday @ the Dayton air show when Jim Leroy died flying the BullDog. (The Thunderbirds did not fly following the accident, but are scheduled for Sunday's show).

Read the news post at ASB here.

In case you don't know who Jim was, watch this old video of Jim LeRoy and the Bulldog II Pitts from earlier 2007. A nice tribute to a pilot (daredevil) on this otherwise sad day.

Also, condolences to the pilot who died in one of the two P-51's involved in an accident at Oshkosh yesterday. See it here.

As someone who was there, it was and still is absolutely shocking. After the Heritage Flight, they reformed and flew a missing man in tribute to Jim. Skip Stewart and Shockwave did a show and Skip flew his solo act. Also, the Smoke Squadron dedicated their heart in the sky to Jim. Thankfully I wasn't taping Saturday, but I will have videos of Sunday's acts up soon.

Jim Leroy was an extreme aerobatic soloist or as LD and some others considered him a daredevil because he risked his life doing risky menuvers.
