Hi all,
Dunno if this has turned up here before, but I found an interesting little addon for FS2004 that allows you to record tracks and then play them back easily and simply in game while flying along with them at the same time. I tried it and the track I recorded was very stable and easy to fly off with very little framerate hit and, as such, lends itself perfectly to the practise of formation flying (if you don't have a buddy to fly with you of course). Not only does it not wobble around as FS multiplayer is famous for, but there are no collisions with the track aircraft so you can get as close as you want.
Also an interesting feature is that you can layer the tracks (ie record one and then fly formation with it while recording a second track, then play back both tracks and record a third etc etc) so that you could actually build a diamond or delta or a formation of as many aircraft as you like until your system falls over.
Although this is FS2004 and obviously will have little value for practising the specific maneouvers and power settings/sight pictures with the flight model in Lomac, it is extremely useful for learning basic formation techniques and how to get up close and maintain position with a minimum of fuss. This will definitely improve your skills in Lomac and you can practise whenever you like.
Anyhow, interesting utility, Check it out:

Hey Redeye,
Yup, I've seen it and am currently saving up for a monster PC so that I can run one as a server and the other with full detail, smoke, shimmer effect and everything else! For the moment though I only have one computer, and this seems to be a nice alternative to Phantom Control for the average Joe who doesn't have the dough for an extra PC but would like to be able to practise without tons of setup in Lock On.
I'll definitely be checking out Phantom when the new box gets here though!
