Will there ever be a female VT (Virtual Thunderbird) Pilot?

Post by JZimms100 » Thu Oct 19, 2006 7:13 pm

Hello all!

In keeping with the progressive attitude and nature that the USAF (United States Air Force) seems to have regarding this issue, will the VT (Virtual Thunderbird) Family ever assign a female pilot to the team? Or has this already happened in the past?

Next year it appears that there will indeed be two (2) female pilots on the Reality Thunderbirds team... I belive the second lady is going to be assuming the #6, opposing solo, position!

Thank you all, this Community is truly world-class. Congraulations!

Sure. As with the real Thunderbirds, if we get a lady applying with the right skills and attitude, why not?

To piggyback on Cobra's reply, if she beats the competition fair and square and would benefit the team, there are no obligations.

Anyone can become a Virtual Thunderbird male or female just as with the real Thunderbirds. Here are a few but not all of the key things that are required to make our team:

Committment
Desire
Attention to detail
Ability to work as a team
Positive attitude
Ability to take critique and correct mistakes
Determination
Discipline
Ability to bounce back after rough flights and give it your all
Good studying skills
Dedication
Natural Ability to always strive for perfection
Humour
Excellent Motor Skills

Those are just some of the things that help a person get on our team. As you can plainly see it doesn't matter if you are male or female. In addition to the above list what really matters is that you can fly the virtual jet extremely well and always strive to fix the things that you can't do well.

There has never been a female Blue Angel driver, that much is a fact. About their policy, I wouldn't know...

It wouldn't be their policy. There are female F-18 pilots in both the Navy and Marines. They take all the risk that the men do. If there have been no female pilots in the Blue Angels it would be because none have applied or if they have, they were not been selected up to this point.

I would suggest that this situation would not be likely to last too much longer. The Navy aren't dumb.

There are several female Blue Angels just none are pilots, as said by Lt. Justin Otto, a former Blue Angel, its not a matter of if, but a matter of when there will be a female Blue Angel pilot.

Is it realistic to say, that if the VT (Virtual Thunderbird) Family made our Commander/Leader (#1... Boss) a female, that the real Thunderbird team would follow suit quite closely behind? Making their Commander/Leader a female as well?

To Jonnyb and [SH]Falcon....congratulations! How are efforts on your respective flight demonstration teams?

Realistic?! Uhmmm, no!

For many reasons and to cover simply just one of them, the one that pertains mostly to your question; The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds do not recreate the Virtual Thunderbirds in any way or form, it's the other way around! We recreate them virtually! They don't recreate any part of our group "realistically", hence... the answer to your question.

I will admit, it would be flattering if we in some small way influence them and inspire them, but again realistically: No!
