Need Cougar FSSB

Post by goonybird » Thu Jul 14, 2011 5:24 am

Hey All!

Won't be long before I'm home from a "whirlwind middle-east tour!"... the last few weeks I've been planning a rebuild of my cockpit soon after my return... HOTAS Warthog is waiting at home patiently to be center-mounted directly on the deck with stick-extension mod... I'm thinking about also permanently mounting a Cougar FSSB stick base on the side for F-16 work, installing/uninstalling each stick as necessary...

I've been looking around and don't see any instances of just the stick being sold separately... if not directly, are any private individuals out there selling one?... and... will there be any compatability issues between Warthog throttle and Cougar stick and base?

Thanks :D ... and can't wait to get back home and into the saddle again!!!
S!

The HOTAS Warthog and HOTAS Cougar play nice together. TARGET can be used to program both devices at the same time (and combine them into one virtual device).

The HW stick can be screwed onto the HC base and used there (and once you try it you'll want to, ;) ). Unfortunately neither the HW or HC are sold throttle/stick separately, and the HC is discontinued so over time I imagine it will get harder to even find any retailers with inventory.

I'm not sure what Real Simulator's plans are for production of the FSSB, but at some point it'll become hard to find HOTAS Cougars for sale (and possibly FSSBs as well). If you have money to throw at it now buy a HOTAS Cougar and FSSB mod. Even if you don't end up using it right away, there's a good chance it'll be harder to come by eventually.

The HOTAS Warthog can hold its own though and is a very precise stick and throttle.

just occured to me

Post by goonybird » Sat Jul 16, 2011 1:13 pm

Was just listening to Whack's interview and watched "Delta Soaring" for the 100th time *wistful sigh*, and the statement "exclusively HOTAS Warthog" hopped out at me... as indicated above I do have HW and will always be using the throttle, but hope to be able to switch-off to Cougar FSSB for the '16 (not exclusively HW)... if I were to apply to the VTB, would that combination be acceptable in the first place?

Yes, of course. To tryout you need HOTAS Flight Controls (e.g. Joystick, Throttle and Rudders). Any combination will suffice.

The VTB are sponsored by Thrustmaster with the HOTAS Warthog, and presently all pilots on the team fly with the HW. Being able to have the same equipment, same settings and high-end controllers has always been a priority for us.

Can you go into a little more detail about how this is done?

LD, I sure hope you are paid each time you say "Brought to you by HOTAS Warthog."

If not...then I would renegotiate your contract.

Getting $400 flight controls handed to you at no cost isn't considered getting paid?

That did make me laugh Teej.

Tailhook, I'd say more of an honour to fly with them, than getting paid.
