Black Shark and 6DOF

Post by Lawndart » Sat Nov 26, 2005 4:11 am

This movie clip demos the 6DOF (6 Degrees of Freedom) that will be implemented for the combat helicopter – the Russian Ka-50 in version 1.2 of Lock-On. Unfortunately we'll have to wait longer before the rest of the aircraft receive "6DOF upgrades", but it's still cool!

I've been considering IRTrack for a LONG time but for some reason it never happens to have that much priority to me to spend $100+ on such thing. On top of that, as I once heard from striker, it does no help to TB type formation flying especially since we use the integrated commands to lock our view on the leader. Now this time its starting to look very realistic, and very useful for combat.

PS. LD, do you have one of them?

I do have one, but I hardly ever use it for the type of flying we do. Like Striker would say: It's very useful for the "behind the scenes" solo work, setting up for maneuvers and making timing hits with the diamond. For formation it is simply not precise enough compared to padlock and what I mean by that is it's very difficult to hold the view steady with TIR. The device itself is very precise and a real blast for combat or airshow demo as long as you're not flying close quarter formation.

If I had to choose and pick a budget, I'd invest money in a Cougar (w/ mods), puter upgrades/graphics card before moving onto TIR.

well i for one have used the TRACK IR and i like it better than padlocking.. because at least with Track IR i can tell if my jet is rolling in or away from lead because the view of the aircraft i am flying off of will change to show stick inputs... with the padlock.. i cant tell if i am rolling into or away from lead because the view of his jet is stablized....but thats just how i got used to flying in the delta... and with the Virtual Blue Angels .. when we did the parallel break.. I could break padlock and look around to see where my HIT was gonna be.. or where it should be as opposed to breaking padlock at the last second and then panning around with the POV HAT looking for my HIT point.. so it does have its major pluses as well as best of both worlds option..

to each his own...
and CINCH BEFORE YOU SAY A @#$%ING WORD about me giving up on formation flying and taking a break, all i have to say is...."LICK THE TIP"
