Need to upgrade puter (this sucks)
He wants to know how much you want to spend. Dee Dee Dee. How else is he gonna know what his budget limit is if he buys the parts for you. The free of charge part I am assuming is that he will assemble it for you for free. If you return your PC and get another Dell you will be dissapointed nad it won't be cost effective. And for 800 or so dollars you can get an AMD 3200 FX 5500 and 1 GB ram plus alot of other periperals.

lqcorsa,
What Kahuna is trying to tell you (correct me if I'm wrong) is that he would build the machine free of charge (no labor cost), but you obviously have to give him a budget to work with for the parts and remember, nothing's for free.
LD
P.S. My graphics card and modded Cougar top $1400 alone in invested money... but, that's not to say you can get a decent setup that will run Lock-On for less.

Well, since my PM to you is now a matter of public record, I think that I need to post it here so that other readers are given the correct context. Otherwise, your last post reads a little as though I proposed something "illegal, immoral, or fattening". Also, for the benefit of both you and the mods, I'm not mad, upset, or trying to "flame" anyone, just trying to get my point across. If it's too strong, LD, delete it, please. I'm easy. (but not cheap...)
Here is my PM:
Now, no offense, man, but what on earth do you think you're going to get for $700 bucks? Heck, the link I sent you was more than that and was twice the computer a Dell is for that kind of money! If you can "get credit" for the Dell, tell them how unhappy you are with the POS and get your money back! Maybe when you told Dell you wanted a "computer for gaming", they thought you were going to play Wolfenstein 3D or Lemmings or something on it. I'll bet it plays solitaire like a scalded dog. But the computer you have can't run HL2 or Doom3 or probably even Falcon 4.0 at a fast FPS rate. Heck, I bet my wife would ridicule Dungeon Siege 2 or Sims 2 running on that thing...
She plays as well, and is good. I'll give you credit for one thing; your post was shack on target that "this sucks", 'coz any full system for $700, especially from mass market sources like Dell, really will suck! BTW, I'm not an authority on all of Dell's products. They probably do have what you need. Better be ready to pony up three or four thousand dollars for it, however.
You're not going to get where you want to be for less than about $950 minimum, and that is without a keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc. I'm not building a Dell for anyone. If I build it, it's gonna haul butt or the entire thing will just have been an exercise in futility. I'm planning my next machine to run Stalker, and it's going to have to scream. Liquid cooling, dual CPU (maybe), SLI graphics, dual SATA2's, 2 GB of the fastest DDR RAM I can find, and it's gonna top $2400 to build. You plan and then you build what you require.
BTW, to the rest of the guys reading this, I told Corsa I'd charge him $100 to build it, and I'd cover the shipping and insurance, which on this would be around $65. So by the time I ship it and pay for gas to run to the shops, I'm probably in the hole.
lqcorsa, I've no idea where you're going to end up. Personally, I'd send the Dell back and get something decent. What you do is up to you.
'nuff said. Good luck with it.

Here is my PM:
Now, obviously you would have to "let me know if you are interested". This usually means a reply PM. My "putting the costs together for you will not cost you a thing", as I said. However, it appears you really aren't interested, so I would be wasting time by doing this activity for you.Corsa:
There's a PC Club store in Lynnwood, one in Bellevue, and two in the Sea-Tac region. If you want me to build you a computer, this is what we would do.
I will research the components and send you a list of prices as well as give you more than one option for each component, and my recommendations.
You will receive a complete bill of materials for your unit. If you give me an idea of how much you want to spend, this will help me to determine how advanced we want to go hardware-wise.
I can buy all of your components at the local PC Club store and this way you have an option for returning the defective unit under the manufacturers' warranty to a store near you.
I will need you to send me the software that came with your unit or I can buy new software here. Nothing will be bootleg or illegal copies.
If you send me your hard drive I can probably install it into the new unit and save you both time and money.
Once you approve the list, you will send me a cashier's check or money order for the amount required. You can send it certified or "signature required" as proof that I've received it. I will send you an email upon receipt that will satisfy any court as a receipt.
I will build your computer and ship it to you UPS insured. You will also receive all original receipts, boxes, manuals, etc.
I will charge you $100. This is to cover shipping and insurance to you and my gas $ to pick up the parts.
I will talk to the PC Club crew here to insure that what I buy for you, you can exchange/return if there is an issue.
This is the deal. I am a retired master sergeant and a professional. I will not lie to you. My level of integrity is very high, and I think I can be trusted. If this is a route you are interested in, I'll put together the costs for you; this will not cost a thing.
Cheers!

Well, I dont need some top of the line PC that has a bunch more stuff on it then I really need. I have 2 versions of Counter-Strike on my PC w/Steam and FS2004, AND another game called orbiter for a virtual space thing. I'm not saying I want the bare minimum where I cant see the fuel burn effects and afterburners and everything, but I dont want some 3000 dollar PC either. I gave you a price on all of my stuff, if you could just tell me about how much it would cost for a PC with stuff that isnt a lot of money but will run LOMAC I can tell you if I am interested.
