Nvidia 8800 Series - Reality Redefined
Cleared CMOS with battery out for 1 hour...this is new MOBO, CPU, and Graphics. Also new PSU - first Enermax 600 Noisetaker II, it was bad(powered up for less than 1/2 sec, then off). I'm thinkin maybe it fried the 8800...? The OCZ GameXstream powered everything up like a champ except the video card.
I know I had all connections correct - I'm so meticulous with that stuff I would drive you crazy Before replacing Enermax I did a jumpstart test - definitely bad, this is the second high-end Enermax that's been fubar for me...I'll never buy Enermax again.

Rgr, didn't know about the PSU meltdown. It could have very well poped a few resistors on the 8800. It could also have cooked the PCIe slot on the mobo as well. If you have the option I'd try the 8800 in another PC if possible b/f going through the RMA process. Or if its an SLi capable board try the second slot (changing the bios to make it the master slot)- again if its possible IDK if every SLi board will let you do that or not.
I actually aready ordered replacement overnight - Newegg said they would give a refund on first one when they receive it...
I was thinking about trying card in the other slot, but I figured if the fan isn't even turning, it's gotta be dead. Do you know if the fan is powered by the 6 pin connectors, or could it be the PCI slot? I sure hope it's not the mobo I should RMA

I have no idea if the fan pulls off the aux power or the PCI slot. My engineery sense (its like spidey sense, only it helps me strike out with women ) is telling me that the high voltage aux power would most likely be a seperate circuit from the low voltage fan which would draw low voltage power off the PCI slot.
Hey guys,
Has anyone yet to figure out how and the heck to get rid of the blacking out condition in the cockpit when you set the game graphic settings to high using the 8800? This is really been an issue for a fair bit of time now and it is getting old. It is beginning to bug me having this power daddy card and not being able to crank up the graphic's in this simulation.
Any help point me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Hey Racer,
I've had this since the first version of our joint mod on my old 6800 and now the 8800.
Basically open up graphics.cfg and change the following settings...
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On\Config\graphics.cfg
Change the near_clip middle_clip and far_clip to all the same settings. I have mine all set to 4.
Do this for each section - Low, Medium and High
Now there is a drawback to this, in that with the Hawk and Tutor, I can't see either wing and when on the ramp, panning right and left I see the ocean through the floor (I haven't tried the Sabre).
It only seems to be an issue with our mod I have to say, all other mods work fine.
If anyone has another suggestion, I'd love to be able to see my wings again

Wow, thanks Ells, I always just assumed that this was a driver issue that had to be fixed by nVidia. I'll have to give this a try tonight. I've had shadows on all planar ever since I got the 8800 and hate the lost realism when looking at aircraft in close formation as they don't cast shadows on one another.

Its a general shadow render error for me. I don't remember it affecting the in-cockpit view, however all objects have the error. I find it most noticable when looking at any object that has a shadow map, the object is completely covered in shadow on all sides regardless of orientation.Racer wrote:Hey Burner,
Are you saying that it is the full shadows choice on the options panel which causes this blacking out of the windscreen? That being the case, at least I could go full high on all the settings and just back off the shadows selection.
I would get the same thing with certain driver sets for the 7-series NVIDIA's as well, but unlike the 8800's there are drivers that do not have the shader bug (i.e. the planes being "blanketed" by a full shadow... not blacked out, but just dimmed). Too bad to hear all the 8800 users are SOL for 100% working drivers... still!
