Trouble getting phantom server running

Post by RED3|madmax » Fri Oct 10, 2008 6:59 am

Hi,

Wonder if anyone can help me. Trying to get a phantom server running.
The main problem is when the server is running the phantom does not seem to taxi correctly. When it taxi’s from the parking area it does not turn very well and goes on the grass. I’ve tried it about 6 times now & and it’s different all the time. Some times It makes it to the runway but is not lined up properly.
I did get it line up once and do a flight then land but the taxi went to pot as ran onto the grass.
I’ve tried it with 2 different computers.
I’ve tried even flying the mission, tracing it & running the phantom on the same computer but still the same problem.

I am using the same mission file which it was recorded on as I know this is important.

Here’s what im doing.

1 ) Record a track….all be it it’s in multiplayer. (Is this a problem, does it have to be single player?)
2 ) Open phantom control turn trace on everything else off.
3 ) Close phantom control
4 ) Start lockon play the track (Im playing the track in lockon using SHOW REPLAYS)
5 ) When the track is about to finish I hit escape to stop.
6 ) Close lockon start phantom control.
7 ) Hit the convert button & save it the same file name as the track I played. Example track file – flight.trk and the phantom file as - flight.phtrk
8 ) At this point there are 2 files flight.trk In the missions\track folder and the flight.phtrk in the lockon\temp folder.
9 ) Open phantom control and select a Phantom Track. (flight.phtrk). Then hit USE. I also have the loop tick on so the track loops but I’ve never got that far as it gets stuck in the grass usually!)
10 ) Turn phantom ON & everything else off.
11 ) Close phantom control.
12 ) Start lockon
13 ) Multiplayer, start server select the plane being in position 1 (same as the position I selected when recording the track) So the plane was recorded In the position 1 and plays on the multiplayer as position 1. Starts on the exact same spot as it did when recording which is correct.

This is when it goes pear shape.
Engines starts, starts to taxi, sometimes turns to runway or sometimes only turns a little then runs onto the grass. As I said before I managed to get flying once but it went onto the grass after landing. I even seen it take off but when it came in for landing it was lined up about 200ft too the right of the runway and landed on the grass.
It’s as if it’s out of sync.
Please if anyone can help let me know!!!!!

It sounds like you are doing everything right. Here is what you don't know about phantom.

Taxi problem:
There is a problem with taxi between the ramp and taxiway and again between the taxiway and runway. Note the line separating these. When taxi, do not imput any control functions when crossing these lines. We have takeoff tracks that work but mostly start airbourne behind the show line at 1000 ft and 240ktns to enable setting flaps down.

Landing problem:
There is a problem getting phantom to land down the center of the runway at the end of your track. Therefore, we do not land but end the track airbourne.

These are 2 known problems with phantom control.

Voice over:
When making your phantom tracks, record your voice commands using Ventrilo. Name this voice recording the same as your phantom so you will have a total of 3 tracks with the same name and one mission file accociated with your flight.
Ex:
20081010_HighShow_Raz05_Boss.trk -original recording
Date _flight _airport_pilot
20081010_HighShow_Raz05_Boss.phtrk -phantom
20081010_HighShow_Raz05_Boss.vrf - voice recording

In Ventrilo make 2 keybindings.
Name the first RECORDING. Use keystroke "S" to start recording and keystroke "Esc" to stop recording.
Name the second "PLAYBACK". Again, use "S" to start playback and "Esc" to stop playback.
These 2 bindings snycronize the voice and phantom track as both are started with S and ended with Esc.

Place the .vrf (voice recording) in:
C:\Documents and Settings\New User\Application Data\Ventrilo\recordings

See the link below for more information:
Phantom with Ventrilo Voice Over

I will be on Ventrilo if you want more help.

Good news Madmax. I use a very expensive program to change tracks etc. Most others use another program made for LockOn but i can't remember the name of it.

Anyone know the name? ...searching...

Note: The loop function in Phantom Control doesn't work that well.

There is a program called " Ded-mac" which requires the person using it to know alot about scripts and such, but none the less works great if you can figure it out :D

Thanks guys.

Will look into it but if it's too complicated will skip it!

Will work on the sound next I think so the track has audio.

Thanks again

Hey Max,
I flew the track a couple of days ago and found it to be slightly jumpy at some points in the turns and at smoke on calls (assuming these) smoke comes on and then off a second later (not sure if the recording was done that way?).

I've flown the VTB phantom tracks without any problem (except keeping formation lol) and I have to say voice over is the next thing to work on bud.

Great job getting the phantom running though!!

Hi Ells,

Don't know why it was a bit jumpy, maybe my daughter was watching YouTube again LOL.

We have tried it with 5 ships connected flying in formation and the ping was good.

Anyway I have retraced the track today to cut out the landing.

I've updated the VRA forum regarding the info on the phantom.

Hi again folks,

Right i've got the phantom running good now. Big thanks to Redeye!

My phantom loops okay (had it running 5 days solid)

The only problem I have now is I want to add voice.
I know nothing about writing scripts for the track to loop and keeping the voice in sync.

Any help on what scripts I need to restart the phantom & the ventrilo voice would be great.

End of the day I'm doing this for anyone to join.

Many thanks

For info how to do voice over check the sticky thread in this forum called Phantom with Ventrilo Voice Over. Once you have this tested and working with a single phantom track (synchronized), you'll need a 3rd party software such as the one Redeye already recommended to start each application and "run the show", telling it which tracks to load up and so forth.

Hi folks,

Many thanks for all your help on getting my phantom server running.

It's now running with voice & using scripts to restart the mission & voice.
Still a few things to tidy up but it's running!!!!

Many thanks again

Madmax

P.S.
I used autokey a free download to run the scripts.

Also in your in instructions for ventrilo setup which really helped, the part which mentions 'what you hear' is for Creative Audigy cards only. I don't have a creative card as mine is a AC97 and instead of 'what you hear' it is 'stereo mix' took me a bit of time to figure that one out but all is good now.
