It may be some sort of targeting monocle such as the Apache pilots use?

I suspect something to do with the JHMCS. If you have an account on www.f-16.net post the question there. If not, I can but is the picture yours? I don't want to use someone else's image without their permission.

Seconded. Some kind of helmet sensors in addition to the actual JHMCS sensor itself.

Doesn't JHMCS use RFID tracking? That's what the strut to the 9 o'clock of the seat is.
