Gonna put this at either '87 or '88. Good to find video of the Diamond Dirty Roll!
If anyone gets to ever meet Gil Rud (Boss from '86-88 ), ask him the story about the inception of the Dirty Loop. It's quite entertaining!

...or you can read the full story, as told by Gil Rud himself, the commanding officer during the first season the Blues transitioned to the F/A-18, in the book called:
The Blue Angels A Fly-By History - Sixty Years of Excellence by Nicholas A. Veronico
Excerpt:
"The other A-4 maneuver we attempted in the F/A-18 was the four-plane dirty roll-in formation. That was ugly. We tried it, and we got through it, but it was so ugly when looking at it from the ground because the airplanes were going all over the place. It was just very uncomfortable, so we decided not to do it."
The story about how the Dirty Loop came about is then told.

Trust me, it's a story much better told in person over a few cold ones. You can't swear in a book!

No, but seeing as most of us reading these forums won't meet him in person, the second best thing would be to hear it directly from someone who has.

Knowing Rhino, if there were one or two beers involved, he doesn't remember it anyway.
