Just a really cool photo with Haole from Patrick's Aviation.

Haole Q & A
Hmm... I think the light is that bright that it's going to be a bit blueish... Maybe the camera settings make them blueish?

I think it may have to do with night vision adaptation or making it easier to tell the difference between the port- and starboard side at night, as well as "dampening" any bright lights for night operations. The most sensitive wavelength for your rods is 505nm (blue-green). Thus, blue-green lights will generally look brighter at night than red lights.
Exactly how this plays out with NVGs is reversed though, since red lights show up very strong, while the wavelength for blue-green wouldn't be quite as amplified with goggles. You'd still be able to tell the port- from starboard (while looking through NVG "green") because the difference in its light intensity, but more importantly it wouldn't be nearly as blinding.
That's my theory...

Well first of all I think you all are out of your mind talking about this subject. It's a white bulb with a green or red lens cover... thats it.
But to help better our learning of lights, especially under NVG considerations such as LD mentioned here is a video of an IR light under NVG's and someone [not LD...] waving it like a drunken fool.
