What is the difference within Free Falcon 5.0 and Lock On? Does all the cockpit function and MFD fuction the same?

The difference? Apples and pancakes.

For me, the only point in flying Lock On is the netcode as it pertains to formation work. I have almost no interest in flying the sim outside of that.

I can't speak authoritatively since I've barely touched combat flying, but it sure doesn't seem to me that the MFDs work anything like Falcon's.

For flying combat...I'll stick to the Falcon series (usually AF due to the better campaign features and multiplayer stability, but I love seeing all the flavors that exist and have nothing bad to say about FF/RV/OF etc).

What about the graphic wise? And does Lock On has combat fighting features as well?

  • Falcon
  • Lacks the Eye Candy
  • Has a dynamic campaign
  • Does not have the multiplayer netcode
  • Flyable F-16 with functional avionics
  • Lockon
  • Has the Eye Candy
  • Does not have dynamic campaign
  • Has a rock solid netcode
  • No flyable F-16, stuck with F-16 skin wrapped over a F-15
Yes both Sims have combat but the difference is in the campaigns. Lockon campaigns are scripted (not dynamic) where as Falcon is dynamic.

I am sure there are other things but those are what come to mind.

Looking at the terrain and exteriors of aircraft, Lock On takes the graphic prize, IMHO. FF/RV/OF have made some impressive graphic improvements to Falcon. When it comes to inside the cockpit...I'd have to go with Falcon being better since while some of it may not be as "pretty" as Lock On, it's far more functional (more things move to let you know what's set where in Falcon. And of course, Falcon is clickable.)

If you're flying close to the ground, LO will definitely have a better sensation of speed.

And yes, there's combat flying (dogfighting, training, scripted campaigns) in Lock On...but not as interesting as the dynamic campaign of Falcon.

You mentioned no flyable F-16, stuck with F-16 skin wrapped over a F-15.

How about the cockpit? Is it the same as F-16 ? I'm only familiar with F-16. :?

It is the F-15 cockpit on the inside but the F-16 on the outside. A lot of difference between the F-15 and F-16 cockpits.

Is there any manual for the ramp start for F-15? I am getting my Lock On CD from eBay.

No, the ramp start of the F-15 in Lock On is very basic when compared to Falcon's 8 minute spool.

Everything you need to know about the sim is in the little booklet that comes with the CD. However, the engine start is a simple key press Left Win key + Home will start both engines.
