Red Arrows could get first female pilot

She's one of only ten female pilots in the entire RAF, and among an elite group of fliers competing to fill three vacancies on the team.

It has been disclosed that the woman has made it through to a shortlist of nine contenders for the remaining places.

As they say, female pilots have been flying in the military just long enough (first now) to have accumulated the experience typically required to apply to the Thunderbirds, Red Arrows and Blue Angels alike. Competition is still stiff though!

Good news, let's hope there will be more teams acting the same way! In France too we're starting to have females in the Patrouille de France. This year Cpt Virginie Guyot (31 years old, married, 1 child) will enter the team in slot position, which means that she will be the leader during the 2010 season :D
