Mid air collisions

Post by Cobra » Sun Sep 02, 2007 1:03 am

I have a feeling that Mid air collisions will be a bit of a topic after seeing the video of this today (not yet on Youtube)...

Looked very similiar to a well known thunderbirds manoeuvre and serves to highlight the risks involved.

While I was searching for it on Youtube, I came across this..

which occurred just after I left the RAAF. The aircraft is the MB-326 Macchi which I did my advanced pilot training on. Both the pilots involved are now in Qantas. Dick Crispin never lives this down as he was an Army pilot on exchange at the RAAF Central Flying School.

Jeff Trappett is an interesting guy as well. He owns his very own Mustang and this link tells the story of both he and the aeroplane very well.

The CAC version of the Mustang was the ultimate example of the P-51 and saw service in Korea but was outclassed by the emerging Mig's out of Russia. Jeff was an Instructor at Point Cook when I did my basic training and he regularly flew it on weekends. The sound of that machine when it was fully wound up was just awesome.. Anyway.. enjoy!
