Super Hornet and Thunderbirds

Post by Metro » Sun Aug 12, 2007 11:53 pm

Got to tell you guys,

Went to the Tbirds show in Niagra Falls this weekend. Saw the Thunderbirds. Fantastic show. T-birds got off about 35 mins late due to a mechanical on one of their birds but after that super show.

I have seen the Blues perform year after year and numerous solo performances by F-15's, F-18's, F-16's and others but if you have not seen the F-18 superhornet demo, you got to see it. I wish I had of had my video camera. Super performance by VFA-11 "Rippers". I had no idea that the superhornet had that type of capablity. Wow!.

Here is a Youtube video of a superhornet demo. Very similar to what I saw.

Still nothing like watching it in person.

By the way, don't know how to post pics on the threads. Have some of the Tbirds I'd like to share. Help someone

Downsize the image(s) to a forum friendly size (1024 x 768) using your photo editor, then upload to each one to an image host such as www.imageshack.us and finally copy the direct link to each individual image and paste it within the BBCode [brackets] and it will show in the post.

Code: Select all

[img]http://imagehost.com/yourpic.jpg[/img]
Basically, you need a place to host the photo and then place the link between the [bracket] - [/end bracket] within your post.

I've seen the Super Hornet demo and it is quite impressive! Along with the Raptor demo, it is definitely pushing the envelope a bit more than the other tactical demo's, although the Strike Eagle demo is also a favorite...

Yea the Super Bug demo is pretty cool. The actual demo was likely flown by the guys from VFA-106 at Oceana, but it is cool they used one of the VFA-11 jets for their demo. (They are doing that this year for operational issues with the Super Hornet, I think). Doesn't really matter whats on the jet, as long as the performance is good!

That youtube video you posted is actually being flown by Boeing's fighter test pilot Ricardo Traven, and he REALLY gets aggressive with that jet.

You call a super hornet a good demo....please. All it is it just a few fast passes and funny rolls. The Sopwith Camel could put on a better show than a bug, sorry.

I got to a see a SuperBug Demo at the Brownsville airshow this year. It was more of a tactical demo than the video posted above but it was still awesome.

One thing is for sure...it beat the heck out of the F-14 demo I saw there this year.(there wasn't one, tailhook, get it?)

Thumper

P.S. I couldnt help it...sorry

What he means is....................oh forget it, its like talking to a box of rocks when it comes to you.

Too bad you had to derail yet another thread with mindless F-14 jibberish and your hate for the Hornet Tailhook.

At least the Tomcat and "Maverick" have something in common these days; They've both seen better days and now their careers are going down the drain... :P It would be neat to see the F-14 reemerge in a vintage Navy aircraft heritage flight though sometime in the future!

P.S. Re: the Bug vs. Cat (dead horse) subject: Arguing with a pilot is like wrestling with a pig in the mud... after a while you begin to think the pig likes it.

The aircraft was definitely a "Ripper" bird. Not sure who was flying it but that guy was definitely as aggressive or more so than the youtube video I found.

Viper. I know you love the Tomcat, I did too(well, still do) but it is an aircraft of the past like all the great aircraft before it. Soon the Hornet will be following in the jet trails of all those "Great" Warbirds to make room for the likes of the f-35. And then the cycle continues. I watched them all during my years in the Navy. They all impressed me and mostly the Aviators that flew them. Some Aviators could do more with Tomcat than with a Hornet and vice versa. I've seen great Tomcat shows and I've seen bad ones. The Hornet show I saw-now that Aviator impressed me! Remember, all in all be thankful that all those aircraft(past and present)and aviators that flew them were the product of the good ole USA. They all helped mold our aviation community today.

It is not to far in the near future that you will probably see the pilots flying thier fighter aircraft into war from a computer desktop much like we all do with this virtual sim world. Aircraft capablilty is far exceeding the human capacity to physically fly them. The Drone (RPV's) flying in the military is the start of it all.

So when you compare aircraft and thier abilities, remember they are all great performers. The US would of never used them if they were not.

Sorry for bringing back an old thread. But id just like to say the pilot shown is Ricardo Traven, Boeing's Chief Test Pilot.
Thanks
