Cougar and rudders

Hey guys,
After splashing out for the Cougar, I'm a little strapped for cash for some rudder pedals.
Can you recomend any settings (switches) to use on the Cougar that I can use for rudder effectively?
Thnx,
Ells.

There really is no axis or button on the Cougar that can be used EFFECTIVELY for formation flying. If you just need them for taxi and takeoff then mapping them to a hat switch should do the job. Otherwise just get used to flying w/o them until you have the means to get some pedals. I flew on the team for more than a year w/o rudder pedals, they make rolls easier and can help in numerous situations but are not required by any means.

It depends on the level of (self) "critique" whether they are required or not for flying, but for the most part you can get by without using them while airborne like Burner said. I'd definitely recommend getting a pair if you consider yourself a serious simmer! Many of the Solo maneuvers need rudder, although for formation it's more or less exclusively used for finesse!
...for the time being and during ground ops, just map you
range knob axis as rudder. It has a middle detent and then you can simply adjust the deadzone to keep it centered after taxi & takeoff.

Thnx for the reply's Burner and LD (and thnx for moving the post, wasn't sure wehere to put it).
I'll be mainly flying formation, but like to hone my skills doing some solo moves too like the knife edge, etc. and found it extremely hard without a rudder. Looks like I'll have to get some pedals then.
I currently use the Ant dial as it has the same middle notch for the steering on the ground, which is also doubled up for rudder, I think I'll give that a go for now.
So, next question, which pedals to get?
And do I have to get ones that plug into the Cougar, or can I get independant USB ones?
Thanks guys

CH pro rudder pedals are ok...and they are independent of the Cougar.
