Smoke On

Post by Andrew Doubleday » Mon Nov 27, 2006 11:13 am

Gentlemen,

I caught your post in the VATSIM forum this past weekend and downloaded the movie and let me say... absolutely amazing.

I've seen the Thunderbirds perform real world at the Chicago Air and Water show and watching this movie (using Falcon 4.0?)... I felt like I was watching the show live again. The time and skill it must have taken to put this together... I can't even imagine! I'd ask you how you did it, but it would probably take you forever to explain!

I posted a link on the Chicago ARTCC forum to share with my controllers. Excellent job guys... just amazing!

Regards,

Thanks for the kind words. We use LOMAC to shoot our movies though, not Falcon.

Thanks Andrew and glad you enjoyed the movie. Just wanted say that I have done alittle bit of Virtual Flying in VATSIM and it is an amazing thing that you guys do over there. Because I am totally dedicated to the VTB I haven't had much experience there but it is fun to say the least.

As Burner said we use Lockon Modern Air Combat upgraded to the Flaming Cliffs Addon. Lawndart then uses Fraps to capture the shots and Sony Vegas to edit the movie. As a team we analysis every detail when we fly including going to the extent of having our very own #7, Convertible, watching our flights and critiquing what we are doing wrong and right. He has a very keen eye and has been a huge help to us. We even debrief as closely to what the real team does by analysing what we could have done better for next time.

Lawndart has done extensive research and work to but together our Standard Operating Procedures and Show Communications which is as close to the real world team as we can make it. Each pilot knows his role, the show, the calls and his position and is always striving to improve on the little mistakes that are made. As the real world team would say "We never fly a perfect show but are always attempting to."

It's alot of fun, extremely challenging and our passion all at the same time. Our Movie Smoke On is a result of this passion and took Lawndart over 500 manhours outside of flying to create. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks again for the kind words.
