Virtual Thunderbird No. 6 & No. 2 went to JAX NAS Sunday, October 29. Great show and picture perfect weather! Smooth air, no wind, no clouds, few particles because of a recent frontal passage made for some great flying. Good to see all the differences between the two best teams in North America and the more you learn, you realize how dramatically different the shows are between the two teams, yet for most normal people they wouldn't be able to tell them apart.

The amount of breakouts and rejoins the Blues perform is probably the most impressive feat! The Thunderbirds timing is still faster, but the Blues seem to have stepped up their "gaps" since last time I saw them. Loved the takeoff sequence between the Diamond and the Solos. Now, that was cool! Took some pictures and was hoping for comms (but they must have used a new frequency, cause none of the 40-some frequencies I had stored in the scanner and previously confirmed worked today). I know Rhino wanted some comms among others, but we came up short on that unfortunately. Wasn't really going for any pics, but decided to snap a few anyways. These are only from a Canon PowerShot (point and shoot) camera, so the quality is what it is. If anyone would still like a higher res image (the ramp shots possibly) we have those available.

We certainly did enjoy the show though! Now we're heading off to see the Thunderbirds at the end of their homecoming back at Nellis in two weeks. It's not every year you get to see both these teams perform at the peak of their seasons! 8)

We're going to see the Blue Angels in Pensacola in a couple weeks. Really looking forward to it. I've seen the Thunderbirds in their F-4s, T-38s and F-16s over the years, but never the Blue Angels.

I'm glad to know the info about not being able to catch their comms. I was planning to load up my scanner with all the frequencies I had pulled off the sticky thread on this forum. But now I'm just not gonna fool with it. I'll probably enjoy the show more that way anyway. I won't miss half of it fiddling with my scanner, which I'm not real good at using anyway. :D

Well, you have to have a special scanner to do it with. The standard $100 RadioShack scanner will not work because the Blues use TAC frequencies. The T-Birds, however, do use a frequency that is tunable by most scanners. If you want to listen to the Blues you need a scanner (Pro-97 at Radio Shack is $150 right now on sale) that can pick up those TAC frequencies. I will not publish them "over the net" on here just because of safety, but i believe there is a thread either in the pilots lounge or the General Discussion that will "steer" you in the correct direction.

We did use a scanner capable of picking up the frequency bands mentioned, but none of the frequencies were good yesterday. I don't know if it had anything to do with them broadcasting the comms that particular day on local radio or not, but in the past the list in the Pilot Lounge forum sticky has been accurate.

Great shots m8, just looking at those pictures I wish I would have gone, the show looks like it was amazing. I'll have to resort to airshowthings.com though.

"... the Blues decided to go bring back the "Gold" flight suits this year in honor of their 60th Aniiversary. (1946-2006) They had been alternating Blue and Gold flight suits for Saturday and Sunday shows for over 20 years. A few years back they decided just to stay with the Blue flight suit."

A quote from a former Blue Angel.
