I have been messing around with this game for the past two nights and it is not really knocking my socks off. Probably the biggest disapointment is all of the addons that do not work anymore. I probably have over $300 worth of addons that are now useless. What a scam.
I am sure there are many more people ot there who have alot more invested in FS9 addons than I do that are just in shock right now.

Did you have the half screen problem like I did Racer when you tried adding some of them on?

EVERYONE STOP UPDATING YOUR HARDWARE! ITS NOT YOUR HARDWARE KILLING YOUR FRAMES! FSX needs windows Vista and Direct X 10 to show off its stuff.

I agree. Although hardware does play quite an important roll, I'm sure the power of directx-10 will be amazing. I'd like to be the first one to make a revised minimum system requirement list  .

Operating System: Windows Vista

Video/Graphics Processing Unit: 256MB PCI-E DirectX-10 Compatible

RAM: 2 GB

DirectX: 10.0

Processor: Dual Core or Quad Core

Yeah.... All I need is the DX10 GPU and I should be able to keep my dual core processor. With directx-10 that should keep me at about 40 frames you think?

Shaking my magic 8-ball... (drumroll): "Ask again next year!"

I personally do think people will have to upgrade a lot of things in their computers to run DX10 games and in particular Vista itself; however, no need to get in a hurry and buy hardware for that purpose just yet. Let the OS be released first and give them 6-12 mo to fix all the bugs (...remember it is Microsoft) by releasing SP1 and then we'll see what's needed and also how well current/new hardware will perform with Vista.

I downloaded the latest update for Direct X 9 which came out a few days ago and it works with windows XP and I noticed an improvement in frame rates in FSX

I recognize that DX10 and Vista will make a difference...and so may some upgrades (although according to Microsoft SLI video will do NOTHING substantial for FSX)...but ultimately I fear that FSx may follow the ways of FS2000...I could put that software on my pc now and it still would be slow as heck. Slow software is slow software.

What a bummer that'd be eh? So much for next gen gaming...
I still have high hopes for it though. No reason to doubt it yet.

Yeah...I have trouble sleeping when I think about it. But my pc can't run FSX worth beans anyway...so for now it's all about making FS2004 all it can be...and then some. Eventually I KNOW I will bite the bullet though.

Lol and no lol for FSX got it already for a while, but still got a Nvidea GeforceFX 5200 ... and got a 2.2ghz from AMD, need to go working for new processor and new videocard, so FSX is much more beautifull, got like the max graphics without FSX getting into shocks while playing, only sometimes at a Airport.

I just bought a 7600gs 512mb video card...and it certainly made things better for fs2004...but I'm a little worried about upgrading to fsx

MS has announced they will be releasing a pre-DX10 service pack for FSX before they release a DX10 upgrade pack. The service pack is supposedly to optimize for multi-core systems but my guess is that they will just be optimizing the game period. Making a single threaded game multi-thread is no small task and with performance as bad as it is just cleaning up sloppy code should yield better frame rates.

The release date is 'set' for after January so I'm guessing we'll see it in April or May and the DX10 upgrade in early 08. Needless to say I won't be spending one dime on this game. Its really a shame that THIS is what we have to work with as the latest and greatest in Flight Simulation.
