Excellent Formation Landing Video

Post by Rhino » Sat Sep 02, 2006 1:30 am

Looks like a couple of "Family Models" landing together in formation. A good study video!

Pretty neat to see how quickly the #2 pilot went from looking at his HUD to looking at the lead once they were on final approach.

Too bad the camera man was all over the place, would have been cool to see the wingman touch down and roll out.

Great job for the wingman, he was able to keep up even while the pilot of the leading F-16 was changing power all the time.

When I was on Pilot's course the hardest detail I ever did, bar none, was leading a formation through an instrument approach then down to a landing.

TACAN or GCA approaches were hard enough when you were by yourself. Remembering that there was a guy who was hanging off your wing who wanted you to fly smooth and remember to tell him to put his gear and flaps down was a recipe for a helmet fire. Like all things you got better with practice, and it was a lot of fun... but hard work.
