Running vs. Flying

Post by scooter » Sat Aug 12, 2006 11:16 pm

I threw this together tonight...I thought you guys might enjoy it.

Go. Left, Right, Left, Right; feet hitting the ground, legs racing each other, seeing which one can stretch farther. Breathing in and out, feels good, looks good, first turn.

Engine in the green. Power up to 1800 RPM. Right. Left. Both. Magneto check good. Carb heat check. Idle. Smooth. Good.

First stretch. Feeling good, body is pushing its hardest. Air whips by.

Lined up. Power up. Rolling. Engines green; right rudder. Rotate. 1/2 inch of horizon above the dash. Climb speed established. Turn crosswind. Make the call.

Next turn. Blood pumping. Steady out the pace now. Running by the seat of your pants. What happens next. Ankle? Leg? Foot? What if something breaks? Wait. No time to think. Just run.

Headed west. 4500 ft. looks good...VFR. Throttle back to 2300 RPM... Push. Power. Trim. Speed building just enough. Relax. Stay Alert. Just fly.

Final stretch. All energy. Sprint it out. It hurts. Blood rushing. Breathe.

Final. Call unicom. Lined up. Attitude for airspeed. Power for altitude. Adrenaline rushing. GUMPS one last time. Red over white. We're alright.

Walk it off. Feels good. Wipe the sweat off your forehead. Hands on the head. No leaning. Walk. Walk. Walk. Stretch.

Taxi to the ramp. Pat the dash. Sweat drips off the neck. Call clear. Feels good. Mix cut-off. Prop stop. Mags off. Tie 'er down.
