Windows Vista + FS

Post by lqcorsa » Mon Jul 10, 2006 10:00 pm

When FS-X comes out, would it be worth getting Windows Vista, or can my PC run it? Heres my PC specs.

Windows XP Home
2048 MB Ram
Direct X 9.0c
512MB PCI-E Dedicated Memory Video Card
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ MMX 3D Now 2 CPU

PS: Here are some really cool videos of FS-X. Check out the red bull racing one for sure!

wow those videos are nice, I like the first one "Tropos", it shows all the new effects. Alhough no virtual cockpits yet...hmmm....... :( I sure hope we all can run it on our current rigs and dont have to go with Vista and hardware upgrades. But then again its Microsoft.

Take a look at the helicopter ones, they show the B206 virtual cockpit. Pretty cool how you can go into space eh? Did you watch that one?

The only reason to get Vista is for DX10. As there are no DX10 games available there is no reason to upgrade.

FS-X is going to run on DX10 though. I heard with DX10 you can make sort of a "live" environment with 3D waves and birds flying through the air. I'm getting it one way or the other, I'm just wondering if its worth a new operating system...

Well if you want DX10 capability you'll have to upgrade to Vista.

The only other technical feature I know of is the upgraded search function and 3D windows. That and a nice fat performance hit- if Beta2 is any indication.

Shabo,
The Tropos vid is not a preview of FSX...although it would be super nice.

My friend who is only 14 yrs old and he is a genius, has the windows vista FULL PACKAGE from where you install it from the boot cd. He is one of those guys that are BETA testing it. But still some games out now wont work yet. As cinch told me before i was going to get it from my friend.

lol wow lqcorsa, im sure you can figure that out on your own, 1. Windows Vista is a piece. 2. Your computer power is a lot like mine :) so of course you can run FS-X. 3.Don't need to upgrade. 4. I know it will run great but don't really no for sure with that processor if its a 64bit.

Hehe, well I was pretty sure it will run fine, even without direct x 10. I just needed some confirmation from other people. It sounds like Vista is just gonna take advantage of the graphics. Or as the 15 minuet speech that was givin by the guy testing it. "One thing is for sure. Gaming, on Windows vista, is going to be awesome".

Yeah it will be awesome in a year and six months, when a useable efficient version of Vista is released. MSoft was able to get an internet reviewer to endorse their product, amazing, maybe they can get some other reviewer to knock the PS3 while they're at it ;) What I want to stress to you is that unless you have a top of the line system Vista will run restrictively slow. Any feature upgrades DX10 will provide will be overshadowed by the performance hit.
