Airbus GPWS

Post by lqcorsa » Mon Jun 26, 2006 6:33 am

Hey team,

Since I'm Boeing I'm used to the normal Boeing's GPWS sounds, but with Airbus they say something right after 20, what do they say and what does it mean?

Since you're Boeing?! .... I lost you... what?! Say again:?:

20 could be a lot of things too, but if I have to read between many lines... I guess you're talking about the radio altimeter readouts prior to landing? If that's the case, the word you're hearing is "retard" for throttle back.

Hope that answered your question?

I used to think that addition was just the french being difficult!

Actually if you hear the "retard" call it means you are a little late coming out of Auto-Thrust for landing.

This one video I watched from www.a340.net (very good site for Airliner videos) this guy's cockpit said retard about 20 times before it stopped. Later the pilots laugh on taxi in  .
