This is the worst crash in airshow history as far as casualties. Ramstein back in the 80's when several of the Tricolori collided in front of the crowd was the worst until this one in lives lost. I'm not looking at any facts, but if my memory is right over 80 people lost their lives in this crash. The pilot and his backseater both ejected safely, but were later prosecuted and had their careers ended. Don't quote me on it, but none the less a very tragic accident!

Thanks Lawndart, it sounds very tragic. Do you have any idea on how it happened? It looks like he just mis judged the ground elevation and couldn't complete his loop. Maybe we could get somebody from VFTC over to translate the movie  . I saw a similar accident here: http://www.simradar.com/Feature/2322/Su ... rshow.html

It looks like the jet might just be too low on speed and go into a wing stall, or something, its happened to me before on LOMAC when I'm trying to do a sharp turn with low speed.

Its called Pilot Error x10! If this is the crash in which the crew survived then they are now in jail.

The Ukraine unfortunately is not the most favored for airshow events.

okay.. The pilots are heard saying "Where is the Crowd". the newscasters where saying that the Pilots were Disoriented and thats why they asked.. But from reading and listening to airshow videos and publishings.. If a Pilot has to ask his co-pilot where the Crowd is.. It usually means that there is a problem that he is trying to recover from and is pretty busy. in the cockpit .. Ie..trying to restart a stalled engine while holding on to the Stick and trying to keep proper angle of attack or flight path... and wants to make sure he is far enough away from the crowd to ditch the plane safely...

I know with flying Falcon when I get a pretty bad Battle Damage and have Yaw Issues or Aileron issues I hold the stick.. opposite to the side that its pulling too and if I am losing altitude and have no more room on the stick to pull back, or left or right.. i will let the jet rolll out under neath to the side its pulling.. then yank to the opposite side again so i am somewhat level and can start over again..

as soon as Natalya told me what the pilot was saying I was holding my X45 and mimicing what I saw ,. and that was my conclusion.. something was wrong with the jet... then I read at the bottom.. that it was suspected that one of the engines stalled. thus causing YAW from the other engine.. and pilot was too low after the first pass.. This was the very beginning of their performance.. after one manuever. this happend..

will try to find out more .. It helps having a russian here sometimes

I know in that first one, I saw a parachute right before the end. A round yellow chute, so he probably got in big trouble for that one.

Blackhawk I watched that first shot over and over, and the only thing I see at the end is right above that mig, a peice of the plane goes up, are you talking about the second video I posted?

No, I'm not. I see something in the first video, near the end you see a cargo plane or something on the ground as the plane is crashing. Right above it there is a yellow circle and if you watch it as it goes past, a black object hangs underneath. It starts on the left side and falls down as if the pilot ejected sideways. Hope you can see it, it is at the 1:15 minute mark. Pause at that second and look above the cargo plane. It looks like a parachute and pilot to me.

Sorry it was 'too' bad, but it contributed to the discussion there, and I thought it might here as well.

BE WARNED, it gets very graphic, and shows the aftermath (read dead bodies) of the crash.

Being a photographer myself I know that sometimes it might seem questionable at the time to be taking footage and this is one of those times where some people may not realize the importance of a video like this. However I think in a situation like this the videoclip floating around the internet showing that kind of horror does no good and it does nothing to add to this thread in my oppinion. The body parts and gore had been told of in the comments below the video on its page that was originally linked in this thread.

That's my oppinion.

Very graphic, and upsetting. Very very sad. Makes me sick watching that. Anyway, nice planes eh? I even saw a Su-25 up in there. If I were that pilot I wouldn't know what to do. Very cool though seeing him cutoff his chute and everything, but man, looking around at what happened, must be the shock of a lifetime. I wonder if he got some REALLY bad looks while walking around. Where does the pilot go after all of that? And WHY people WHY don't you just turn off the camera! Nobody needs to see people balling on the gound in front of their kids body... . SO SO terrible what happened. I'm sorry I even posted this thread after watching that second one.

To Whom it may Concern: I would agree with the 2 comments previous to mine that I personally see no purpose in posting tragic video such as these. Yes, it does deal with aviation and that is what this forum focuses on; however, any value toward the aviation and simulation communities ended upon ground impact. As a professioanal aviator I can say that we all have a professional interest in the "why" of any mishap; however, I personally feel there is no benefit of showing the obvious results of tens of thousands of pounds of aluminum and jet fuel crashing into families watching an airshow. I am not a moderator of this forum but I would suggest that we refrain from future threads that show graphic post-crash content.
