P-51 visited our airport [Pics & Vid]

Post by Ray » Sun Jun 27, 2010 4:53 pm

Last week when I arrived at the airport there was a Mustang parked on the ramp with the canopy slid back, man did it look awesome.

He departed at sunset - and couldn't resist making a very cool low pass before he left the area. It was really neat to see it in that setting, at a small uncontrolled and privately owned airport - it was more up close and personal than seeing one at a busy airport.

Unfortunately I didn't have an HD camcorder present so I resorted to the terrible movie camera on my point and shoot Nikon Coolpix

I've always been partial to the ol' F4U since watching Black Sheep Squadron as a kid...but there's not much to dislike about the -51D either. :D

If it says "US Air Force" on it it's actually an F-51. She's painted in Korean era markings. (Sorry, I'm a Mustang nut!) :D

Way cool Ray!

Did you get a ride, or at least beg?

 I was going to ask him but he was in a hurry to get going. We've seen him parked there before, just never seen it in action. I hope I can catch him again when he has time.
