Danger Men: Red Arrows - 6 Part Documentary

Post by Lawndart » Wed Jul 22, 2009 6:34 pm

Shamlessly stolen from a post by Rhino in the VBA forums.

The final two parts cover the Quebec air show from last year, with some
funny commentary by the Reds about the Blue Angel pilot's "spray on"
flightsuits among other things.

Danger Men: Red Arrows - 6 Part Documentary about the 2008 team

Channel 5 Doc on the RAF jet fighter pilots' display team. Based at RAF
Akrotiri in Cyprus for 5 weeks, flying practice sorties in Hawk fast jets.
Praparing for the toughest flying exam in the world - the PDA.

Daredevil miltary pilots, thoroughly decent chaps. The Red Arrows take
the toughest flying exam in existence, and fly back to their families for a
quick rest before the display season starts. Their families spell out the
flipside to the 'glamorous' job; the pilots talk about countering G-forces.

Becoming a Red Arrow, staying inside the 'box' and performing kick-
ass aerobatics. The first major date on the Red Arrows calendar, the
Southend Airshow.

Red Arrows fly to Quebec for an international airshow, flying over the
hazardous Arctic Circle with only 2 hours of fuel. 7 stops via Scotland,
Iceland, Greenland, and Canada, over ice sheets and tundra with
nowhere else to go. Each Hawk carries its own elite flight engineer to
service the jet.

The Red Arrows arrive in Quebec for the International Air Show, and
meet the US Navy/USMC Blue Angels, the USAF Thunderbirds and the
Canadian Air Force Snowbirds. It's time for the display teams to check
each other out.

USAF Thunderbirds meet the Red Arrows at the Quebec Airshow.
Snowbirds and Blue Angels also there. Various aerobatic displays, and
obviously the Reds kick arse. Men yee-haah, ladies weep.
