Hey, USAFABrad:
I'm not going to another forum and stir up the members. I'll say it here, and if you want, you can take it over to those guys if you wish. But this is MY opinion. I'm not a v-Tbird and in no way do I represent the views or opinions of the VTB team. This is not so much directed at you as the :rolleyes group on the other forum...
Remind all those guys that without enlisted people serving in maintenance positions such as TAMS, A/B/C shoppers, sheet metal, EMS, CRS, weapons, WSA, AMMO, fuels, paint, etc, AFA grads are just ground troops. There isn't any officer who ever rolled out to the ramp and told me how to trim max fuel flow, or change an engine, or even how to put gas in the jet.
Dude, I just turned 40. I've retired from one job, have serious cred in supervision and management, am an FAA certified airframe and powerplant mech, and have stick time in the F-4E, F-4G, F-111F, and the B, D, and DJ versions of the Viper. I've been an engineer in the automotive industry for 7 years. Working on my pilot's license. Most of us out here who like this stuff are not 16-year-old wannabes.
Wait until you guys out there at the AFA hit the REAL USAF and your first UPT instructor has you puking in your mask. That's before you show up in the chocks and the crewchief hands you a bag of rags and tells you to clean his/her jet up.
Tell the guys on the "other board" that they've got a serious wake up call coming.
#$%!!**&... Zoomies really get me going.

Kahuna,
"Pilots without maintainers are just pedestrians with sunglasses and a cool jacket!"
As a maintainer who has served overseas and now at home I hear where you are coming from bud and I thank you for you service and response. I also think USAFABRAD understands where we are coming from on this issue and I appreciate his input thus far, but as far as the rest of the individuals he introduced us to I think it would be a waste of my and anyone else's time to even respond. In fact pretty much all of the people I personaly respect as a maintainer arent officers but enlisted...A fact that I think wont change much for the rest of my career!
my 2 cents,

my 2 cents,
In the Royal Australian Air Force we had two methods of entry to pilot training, The Air Force Academy, similiar to the US institution, and Direct Entry, which is what I did. Thats right, 18 year olds straight out of high school who could be flying a F18 or F 111 by the time they are 19. ( friends of mine did just that..).
The Academy guys had to do a four year degree, then Pilot's course. As Bon says, Pilots course was generally the great leveller.
Being a military organisation, the RAAF loves acronyms. During my time in the RAAF I coined the acronym, ACWACK, which stood for Academy Wacker. It was intended to denote the attitude of some guys who thought an Academy background made a damn bit of difference behind a stick and throttle..... it doesn't.
Years later I am pleased to hear the acronym still exists in the RAAF, it's my little legacy I suppose.
I don't feel the need to justify myself to anyone here. 13,000 hours on around 20 types from gliders to 747's and A330's speaks for itself.
And if anyone puts down a maintainer within earshot of me he can expect an earful in return. The abilities required to do those jobs these days is truly awesome. I sure as hell couldn't so it but am glad I have good people who keep the jets I fly in top shape. My butt depends on it!

Sorry, Chris, I couldn't help myself. I absolutely loved my job in the Air Force. I was one of those guys that walked out to the ramp an hour before roll call with a bottle of Simple Green or GP cleaner and applied a rag wrench to the jet. Micro-Meshed seat buckles and cockpit switches. Polished turkey feathers and JFS inlet/exhaust doors. My time on the East Coast Viper Demo Team was the best years of my life.
Everybody has a weak spot. Mine is when someone craps on maintainers, or people with that "I'm better than you because I only think you suck. I don't actually have proof." attitude. H8rs.

Hey, Kahuna -
When the guy messes up your burger order at the drive thru, do you give him a lecture on how the air force wouldn't work without enlisted guys? 'Cause I went back over this thread twice and couldn't find where anyone was dumping on enlisted dudes. Do you just throw that out there whenever you get mad about something?
"Mr. Kahuna, this is the IRS. You're been selected for an audit."
"Oh yeah? Without enlisted guys, pilots couldn't even fly!"
I also thought you lost a little bit of that serious cred, after chewing out poor what's his name for picking on others, by adding "*&^%*% zoomies."
Nice touch.
