Engine roar with Win 7 / Vista

Post by Panther » Tue Nov 02, 2010 11:20 pm

Some may remember VFAT 2008 and the lack of engine sounds from the VTB stream. For the life of me I couldn't figure it out but the only solution at the time was to kill the engine sounds in game.

I experienced the same thing with my new PC build and discovered the fix was right in the Creative software. If only I had found this link on ED site a little sooner.

LINK wrote:I installed Creative Alchemy Software and it solved any audio isue with Lockon & Vista.

For $9.99* it s worth the hassle free game.

All you need to do is download the 19 Mb file after purchase, add the directory of the game to the console, and that s it.

Game works on original settings as well as with sound mods installed under modman.

Cheers.
*It's free for Creative Sound Card owner.

Fix for Lockon 1.12 I guess? As FC2 seems to have absolutely no problems with sound.

Just if you add your own sound pack, you need to delete the wav files in the sounds\effects folder or they'll conflict.

i.e. we have new Typhoon burner sounds but if you leave the original PlaneAfterburner.wav file and you have your own PlaneAfterburner.ogg file, it uses the wav one and not your ogg one.

DO NOT delete all the wav files in the folder, as some are needed like APU-startup.

Just delete any (or back them up) for file you will replace with ogg ones.

So, it is still unsure what Lockon we talk about here, because there are major differences between the two.

For example, in FC2 you can set what file (ogg or wav) Lockon should use in the sdef file.

Example:
wave = "Effects/Su27BackEngine.ogg"
gain = 1.7
inner_radius = 700
outer_radius = 5000
cone_inner_angle = 60
cone_outer_angle = 135
cone_outer_gain = 0
direction = {-1, 0, 0}

Yea good to know there is a fix.

But to pay 10 bucks for a simulator I don't fly anymore is a bit of a waste :wink:
