Troubles with Vista x64 and TrackIR

Post by Sinister » Thu Oct 22, 2009 9:38 pm

I was just wondering if anyone has had problems when upgrading from XP to Vista with their TrackIR?

I got a new rig and it has Vista x64 Ultimate preinstalled and it doesn't want to work with my TrackIR 3. I have the latest update but I keep getting a DEVICE NOT DETECTED and no lights on the TrackIR camera.

The device shows up in device manager with no YELLOW exclamation next to the item. The camera shows up as new device connected when I plug it in to the integrated USB 2.0 ports on the back.

I have tried unplug/replug of camera and nothing still...

Naturalpoint wasn't any help. This is an HP built rig.

AMD Phenom 9160e 1.8ghz quad core
7GB RAM
ATI HD 3200 256MB vid card updated drivers from 7/09

DirectX 10
BIOS updated from 5/09

Thanks if anyone has any information to a solution.

Did you delete the "Trackir.ini" file?

No, why?

I also seem to get closing HANGS when I try to close TrackIR either by quitting the program, or if I try to close it and it hangs and I go to task manager and try to close the process and even the process team, it still sits there in the task manager.

I am not liking this Vista...

The trackir.ini file can be an issue but first is the TrackIR working outside of LockOn? From what I gathered it isn't. However, the trackir.ini file will prevent the TIR from working in LOFC if not deleted.

Vista is the devil!

You didn't mention what software you're running. Version 5.0 of the TIR software is not compatible with TrackIR 3. Version 4.1 should work however, but you'd have to browse the support forums regarding 64-bit driver support. Here are some links that might help:

TrackIR Support: Download Software
TrackIR 3 Support: NaturalPoint Forums

I have the latest update for my TrackIR 3 which is build 37.

The next update (5.1) will be compatible with TIR 3, but that's not the issue. The camera doesn't work at all...

Yeah, I am familiar with that .ini file when loading LockOn.

I actually was using the script to auto remove it.

I'm going to try to install TrackIR on my son's computer to make sure the unit isn't bad.

Well, some disturbing news. I talked with the guys over at NaturalPoint and talked about the system and what's happening. I decided to take the TrackIR equipment and install it on my son's computer which is also an HP computer and same thing. His computer is a dual core 2.8ghz processor with Vista x64 Home Edition, and the same problem occured. Software will find device, but then will hang and not detect it in the TrackIR window. Seems to be a problem with HP computers and TrackIR.

I called the guy back and he said that he remembers something about a problem with another product line, the OPTITRACK and HP computers not liking each other.

So now I have to wait until monday until their Tech Supervisor comes in and try to shed some light on this problem. HP wanted to charge me $70 dollars to try to figure out the problem.

I am stuck and I don't think I am going to be able to remedy this problem.

Do you want to run a second test? Different PC and/or different TIR system? Let me know ;)

What do you mean Panther?

I dont think it's the unit.

Everything worked just fine until I got a new HP rig as a backup for my Alienware rig going down.

I have a used TIR4 camera that broke off of its tripod stand that isn't being used. You can borrow it for a test to determine if it's a HP issue and not your camera.

Rgr...

Yeah, they are saying that they think that when my motherboard went down that it might have sent a surge to the camera and have screwed the camera up.

You have a PM Panther. Thanks!
