I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting tired of this! Once the forums run fast for a week straight I'll believe it, but for now this "resolved ticket" is only cause for further aggrevation.

Still Slow

Post by Air_Wolf » Sun Aug 30, 2009 6:27 am

Hey All,

Forums are really slow even more now...

For my website "TCL-Team Combat League" I use www.branzone.com I've never ever had a problem with them for the last 4 years. They are are very quick to respond and resolve issues.

I told iPower again that the forums were running intermittently slow, and here's the next "resolution" by them:

After re-logging in almost each and everytime I wish to post, after posting and then clicking submit... I can go make a coffee and still make it back before it shows submitted.

I know it is a lot of work switching host, been there done it. I think it is time to drop the bomb on i(they lack)Power and move to another host. Someone who actually listens when there are problems.

Seeing some interesting results on www.host-tracker.com (during times when the forums are running slow). Be sure to use the forum URL.

@Panther, I spent a good while today reading up on reviews about different webhosting companies (and not just the sponsored links that flood search results). It's a real pain to move and setup everything, but it's getting to the point where this slowdown is more of a PITA!

Forums running bit faster

Post by Air_Wolf » Sun Sep 06, 2009 6:47 am

Hey LD;

Well, you fixed the delay of the forums, nice job bud. But I still need to double log in from time to time, but no big deal.

Hope it stays like this!

The forums are now using a different MySQL server for the database, and the configuration is setup properly in the PhP config. Can't say tech supp was any help until I found the issue myself and spent the remainder of the day trying to restore-, redirect- and point the configuration to the correct database (and also spending a long time unsuccessfully trying to avoid having to use end of last month's backup for the database). Once I pointed out what the problem was, tech supp was able to supply me with the information I needed, so thumbs up for that, but their troubleshooting was non-existent.

The forums should be blazing fast now compared to how they've been. 8)

This is a known PhPBB issue with logins, and one work-around is to login and if you don't get logged in, hit the back button in your browser and then refresh the screen (or click the banner up top to reload)... and voila, you're magically logged in (with every unread post still showing as unread). Hope that little tip helps!

Wish that worked for me, when I get the login bug everything is marked as read.

Oh well, it's awesome to have a fast forum again. Kudos LD!!

This trick might only work if you do not use the "Log me on automatically each visit" -checkbox? Not sure... :?

Doh, I love that option so I suppose that is a small price to pay, lol.

Further more, when using several different puters with the "Log me on automatically each visit" -option, is when I get problems with unread posts already being marked as read. I only use this option (and sucessfully) on my mobile device, but always login/out manually every time when on my home rig or any other machine. That seems to do the trick for me.
