Multiple Ventrilo Installs

Post by Redeye » Tue Sep 30, 2008 2:43 pm

I'm one click away from success..... :?

I run Ventrilo 3.0.1 and placed the ventrilo-2.3.0-Windows-i386.exe in my Ventrilo main folder. Made desktop icons for both and went to properties and added the -m in the target lines.
"C:\Program Files\Ventrilo\ventrilo-2.3.0-Windows-i386.exe" -m
"C:\Program Files\Ventrilo\Ventrilo.exe" -m

Image

After placing the -m and still get the following message when executing 2.3.0:
Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel.

OS is XP.
Why won't it work..... any ideas would be apprieciated.

Hmmm... You're not actually installing Ventrilo 2.3.1 or using the install .exe file are you? You need the ventrilo.exe from an existing install of 2.3.1 copied into your directory for the current version of Ventrilo that you're running. There's a link to an existing 2.3.1 executible in the link posted below. Just making sure this isn't the case since your problem talks about an install (you shouldn't have to "install" anything)...

Here's what Frazer wrote about it before the Berkuts LIVE SHOW!

No, I'm not installing 2.3.0, just placing the exe in my ventrilo 3.0.1 main folder. Then make desktop icons for both, right click on each, go to properties and added the -m to the target line.

-m stands for multiple installs.

I D/L the ventrilo-2.3.0-Windows-i36_11952539...exe from the Berkuts LIVE SHOW thread and tried it ending in the same result. I then renamed it to ventrilo-2.3.0-Windows-i386.exe with no luck!

Hmm... try just leaving it at ventrilo 2.3.0. I don't believe there is a need for the rest, not 100% but hey worth a shot.

@Redeye, are you absolutely sure you have the program .exe and not the installation .exe? Changing the filename has zero effect.

I got it working :D
I re-downloaded ventrilo 2.3.0.rar and put the exe in my main ventrilo folder. It is 912 KB is size which was different from the one i was trying earlier. I added the -m in the target line and bingo, I'm logged on the Berkuts Ventrilo server.... 8)

Must be something about the Canadian ISPs dropping connections. You should ask Rock what happens when you install a partially downloaded mod via ModMan! ;)

Always check to be sure your filesize matches what it's supposed to be. Windows won't tell you if the download got interrupted or failed, but just say "complete" regardless. THANKS A LOT MICROSOFT!
