Camera Help

Post by franc01sss » Sun Nov 04, 2007 5:49 pm

I know some of you guy take professional pictures of the Thunderbirds.
I was only wondering what type of case/lens you are using and how much money you spent to buy your stuff and if you can specify how hard the setting are to your camera?

Thank you very much

Well, my my gear breaks down like this right now!

Nikon D100 - (New) $1200.00
Nikon 80-200mm 2.8 (New) $1000.00
Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 (New) $700.00
Nikon SB-80 Flash (New) $300.00

Now the prices were about 3 years ago.

But my new rig will be

Nikon D3 (New) $3,000.00
Nikon 300mm 2.8 (New) $3200.00
Nikon 500mm f4 (Used) $5400.00
Nikon SB-800 Flash (New) $300.00

But I will either have to win the lotto or rob a bank to get some of this equipment!

Get the Canon Rebel XTi. There are a lot more Canon knockoff lens makers out there than there are for Nikon DSLRs. For telephoto lens' with a decent reach, I would look into the Sigma 50-500mm. You want something with a variable focal length for airshows. Fixed focal length lens' suck for airshows in my opinion, as jets get closer and farther away all the time.

I have a few professional photographer friends (Cinch being one of them) and most of them swear by Nikon; however, to follow up on Rhino's suggestion, I personally have never had a bad experience with any Canon camera... ever! A friend from when I was still in school worked part time in a camera store too, selling mostly point & shoot, but also som SLR's (amateur equip & glass) and he always said: "Whatever you buy, as long as you get a Canon - that's all that matters!"

Take it for whatever it's worth and try this link for great deals on the Rebel XTi.

Hey,

What about the Nikon D40 or D80? Are they pretty good cameras for those of us that don't have much money to spend? :)

They are both great cameras, but they lack the frames per second (Rapid Shooting) and as well as the shutter lag! But other than that pretty good for the money!

My thoughts lean more towards the D200, but you can get the D100 (The camera I have now!) for around $600 to $700 form http://www.keh.com. Keh is one of the best camera dealers around for both used and new equipment! Take a look at keh for cameras and stay away from the New York dealers you see online with really great prices, only to be shit on by there "Well get it to you when we feel like it" Point of mind! Oh and not to mention the crap they try to sell you that you don't need!!

Feel free to jump in Ventrilo if you have any questions, I have been a pro photographer going on 10+ years.
