, I gotta start saving me pennies if I'm gonna pay out $500 for a new GPU, but hey, if ya wanna play you gotta pay right? Then again if I do end up getting the 8800 I'd want to get a new PSU preferably a 700W, and I'll upgrade to Vista to get DX-10. Maybe I'll do all that in a couple months. Burner I'd really appreciate it if you posted what the 8800 was like once you do install it.

I also put in an order last Wednesday by coincidence for the following:
Intel Core 2 E6600 @ 3.6 (401mhz x 9) (Vc 1.44)
Corsair 2gb PC 1066 (secret ingredient #1)
Asus P5B Deluxe OEM (secret ingredient #2)
Scythe Ninja 1100P Fan (super quiet, monster cooling)
Corsair Memory cooler (quiet cooling)
Aerocooler X2 to replace stock X1900 cooler (couldnt tell it was on)
430 Watt Noisetaker II Enermax (very quiet)
The recipe above makes a economy super computer that is just louder than a whisper. I also have the processor running stable at 3.62ghz, benchmarked and stress tested.
Lock On is a dream at 1920x1200 with things maxed out. AA AO are forced to their highest. anywhere from 40-200 fps depending on whats in the scene.
I can Frap as I am flying formation in real time with the above settings. The Core 2 duo is truly amazing. 26 seconds equal nearly 460mb file (17mb/sec) Thats some bandwidth!
"Song 2" from Blur comes to mind when I think of the Core 2 CPU now with its performance benefits.

Heck yeah, I just got the new rig up and running last night on some BF2142 and holy crap! the E6700+8800GTX combo is just incredible I had all sliders maxed and never dropped below 60 frames even in the most intense action. I plan on upping the Vcore to 1.45 this weekend and seeing what this E6700+680i combo is made of! Though even now at a stock clock of 2.66GHz it still screams.
What kind of 3Dmark06 scores are you getting? I ran one this afternoon to the tune of 10550. Hope to get another 500-1000 with an OC and beta Forceware drivers.

Bought all parts at Newegg.com
Parts all totalled came out to roughly $2600
$650 of that is the 8800GTX, you can still get a good next gen card for $250
However if you're not planning on eventually getting two vid cards and doing SLI then you don't need the 680i and the P5B is a great board and will save about $100.
An E6600 has the 4Mb L2 cache and is about $170 cheaper than that E6700. The 2Mb L2 chips (E6300, E6400) are even cheaper and OC great.
The list goes on but basically you can get together a next gen system for about $1500

I just found this review of the 8800GTX/GTS on Firingsquad.com
It has LOMAC and Pacific fighters benchmarks. The 8800GTX is a clear performer over all other cards. I can't wait to see what they come out with next.
Man! It's been forever since I have been to this site.
http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/nvi ... page15.asp
My 3Dmark06 score: 6603
E6600 @ 3.62Ghz
Corsair 2GB PC28500 5-4-4-10
Asus P5B Deluxe
ATI X1900XTX 512MB
3Dmark06 is a great way to make sure the system you built is running like it is supposed to.
Another great software for stress testing is Prime95. If your system can run the heat/torture test for 24 hours then your system is rock solid. Make sure you run two copies one for each cpu core. Have your temperature available to monitor or else!
Here is a screenshot with CPU-Z and 3DMark06 information.
