The same hardware upgrade that many Cougar owners enjoyed is now available for the Warthog.

I have $600... and... it's gone.

Looking forward to a full review Burner! :D

  • New design of the sensor board resulting in smoothness in the areas close to the neutral position.
  • Small deflection in the sensor system allowing a slight stick movement.
  • Four possible full scale settings for the axes.
[/i]
...all sound very intriguing. Especially how it compares to the R2 (Cougar) and being used in our application; precision formation flying.

The small deflection in the sensor system was what really caught my attention! Looking forward to the review, B! 8)

I'm curious too.

Be careful though.

The R1/R2 let you dial in up to 35# force, with 45# max allowed.

The R3 has a max usable of 10# and a max allowed of 20#.

I read the "four possible settings" as gain control - as in at the 1/4 setting, the full 10# of applied force only gives 1/4 throw.

I thought the max was 21 pounds on the R1/R2. :?

So did I, but that's not what the web site says now.

Not sure what they mean by "max applied" and "max allowed" force? The description for the R1/R2 talks about the 17 to 25-pound selection (and the 6 to 8-pound selection) which I do seem to remember now... Wherever they got the 35/45#; I have no idea.

Makes me wonder what the actual force settings are on the R3 (being that max applied/allowed are so much higher than what's actually available as a setting on the earlier models)?

I'm guessing even lower.

If you actually look at the manual / PDF for the R1/R2, you choose between 6/8/10/21 pounds for full deflection. In the specs at the end, it says:
Maximum recommended load: 35 pounds
Maximum tolerated load: 45 pounds
Sounds to me like they're saying "If you over 45#, you'll break it. Leave yourself some margin and don't go over 35#."

Applying the R3 10/20 pound limits to that...

Makes me think max deflection comes at around 6#, given that 35# was 1.6667 * the max deflection of 21#.

If you watch the video for the full Warthog guts switchover, at the very end you can see him move the stick around with finger tip pressure. Very cool to see the physical deflection built into the system but I agree it is probably too light of a touch. http://youtu.be/zdocudYw2dw?t=6m10s

That said the updates like neutral position adjustment and a hardwired trim function are what I'm most interested in. I just hope I don't break it with my crazy R1 muscles.
