1971 Thunderbirds F-4 Promotional Film

Post by takeone » Fri Apr 15, 2011 3:22 pm

So...I purchased this on Ebay for $10.00 and transferred it today.
Wow...

Lots of fun things to watch and listen. Note, the Boss is Lt. Col, but in the film it's Maj. painted on the F-4. (Assume they used footage from the 1971 show and this promo was for the 1972 show).

Also...check out in one shot #8 in the right wing position.

LOVE the music!! HAHAHA...

Also listen to the narration..."coming to your community soon". I can only assume this promotional film was given to television stations to air during news broadcasts when their local airshow had the team performing there.

It could also be shown at the local Rotary Clubs and various organizations like that. It wasn't unusual for them to have 16mm film projectors to show this type of promotional film.

Also...watch some of the footage and how low the team is flying over TREES! WHAAAT??!! Great stuff.

Also...watch the very end, after black, for the Air Force AV guys sense of humor for the station engineers. Two '60s "babes" beside color charts so they could set up their film chains to the correct color!!! HAHAH!
