[2008-06-01] Virtual Thunderbirds Phantom Server

Post by Lawndart » Sun Jun 01, 2008 5:07 am

As some of you may already know, we have a Phantom Server (administered by Redeye) running multiple tracks with Ventrilo Voice Over, so here's the official word:

Introducing the Virtual Thunderbirds Phantom Server

A phantom is a pre-recorded track flown by the Leader which is then traced and played back live via multiplayer from the server, and through the use of Ventrilo we've been able to capture the radio calls used in real-time and play those back too. Thanks to Redeye, we've been able to put all this together in a script running multiple tracks in a rotation, each with its own voice over and completely automated.

We hope our Phantom Server will benefit those wanting a taste of what flying as a Virtual Thunderbird is like as well as those wanting to become a Virtual Thunderbird. There are several tracks of varying difficulty level performed within the vicinity of the airport.

How to join

The Phantom Server will be available as often as Redeye's real life schedule permits as he's the administrator.
Join our Ventrilo Server and look for the "Phantom Boss". The Lock On IP address will be posted in a comment next to the "Phantom Boss" (unless the server is used for private sorties).

General server rules
  • First come first serve. If someone else is already flying a position, join to a different position or kindly ask if the other pilot is willing to swap (either in mid-air or between sessions).
  • Please be quiet with respect to others in the Ventrilo Channel used for Phantom unless it directly pertains to the sortie.
(NOTE: There may be an echo of yourself when you transmit due to the way Voice Over works until an admin mutes each new user on the Phantom machine).
  • Any use of weapons, counter measures and/or radar will not be tolerated. Visual Tally-ho's only.
  • We highly recommend practicing standard Formation References as this allows each member of the flight to make the most use of practice and provides deconfliction.
Continuous misuse of the Phantom Server or excessive interference with others will result in temporary or permanent bans from both Ventrilo and the Phantom Server.

We appreciate your support in making the Phantom Server an enjoyable experience for everyone participating.
