[2008-01-19] Movie Download: Virtual Thunderbirds @ VFAT '07

Post by Lawndart » Sat Jan 19, 2008 9:22 pm

Watch the Virtual Thunderbirds LIVE performance at VFAT 2007

As most of you know, VFAT is a LIVE show. This video was created entirely from this event with each pilot controlling his own jet, from his own home, using LOCK ON: Modern Air Combat and HOTAS Cougar joysticks while being streamed over the internet for a live audience of more than a thousand people on November 16-17, 2007.

Download movie!
  • Quality: WMV HD 720p
  • Length: 56 minutes
  • File size: 956MB
Note: I began working on this movie following VFAT weekend back in November and had roughly 90% of it done within two weeks. My intentions were to release this "just as it happened"-type video immediately after VFAT for those who didn't get to see our demo live in person, and also to show it the way we'd want to. Unfortunately work, Christmas and life came in-between and it took me another month before I found enough time to finish the remaining 10% of the video, but here it is. Enjoy! /LD

Sorry, I intended to never (!) make a movie this big again after last years ('06)... but this is simply a "live show" made into a video. It wasn't intended with any kind of fancy movie editing or FX, just to let people who couldn't make VFAT see what transpired from our end.

Good job as always guys and good transitions "camera" wise LD. Still amazing to see the difference between the tracks and after action videos vs. the stream replays. Hopefully with Manu's help we can get a local stream for this year!

Awsome VFAT video. Job well done. You guys definitley rock. Very precise and accurate. Still amazes me today that you guys are able to do this stuff. My hats off to all you guys. It would have been nice to be involved in your organization but I see it takes alot of time and dedication. Time that unfortunately I can't spare with the work I do with my company, so I will just have to live vicariously through your performances and videos and an occasional fly by myself in the program. I can barely keep the a/c upright with the flight sim by myself, but I am trying. I can watch your video over and over again.

Great Job guys! If you don't know it, you guys are impressing the indivduals that flew these aircraft in real life and they tell me you are supporting the Air Force in very positive manner! That says alot. Keep up the great work.

Lawndart just told me that the narration was done by Thumper (Allen Hartford).... #8.
Until now, I honestly thought it was a recording from an actual real live show.
An exceptionally well done job Thumper!! Sounds so professional, there should be an award for it :D
