Whack was on his road bike training for a half-ironman and got hit by a FedEx truck today. He got wedged under the rear tire and had to be airlifted to the hospital. He sent the following to the team via Twitter himself:
Whack wrote:I have 7 broken ribs, 6 spinal fracturs, and a bad-ass case of road rash. I had right of way and the truck floated a stop sign. I laid the bike down at 25mph to avoid, but she slowed and I acted like a doorstop for the rear tire. They had to back the truck up to get me out. So very lucky. Really did think the truck was just going to roll right over me. I would've been finished. I'll keep you updated...
Whack is in the hospital for several tests & scans, but please keep him in your thoughts and prayers! I'm sure he'll read your comments whenever he gets around to it (whether here or on Facebook etc.)!
We've already tweeted with him a bunch and he seems in good spirits!
I'll just finish with what I wrote on his Facebook wall:
Lawndart wrote:Hope you feel better real soon!!! So glad you're still with us. It's been a "Whack'ed" year, so no wonder you had to be THE attention hog. (J/k)... Seriously, take care of yourself and know that you're in my thoughts Bro Montana.

Hey Gang-
Thx for the well-wishes. Things could be much worse for sure. Looks like the internal bleeding has subsided, that was one of my biggest concerns. It really feels good to see how much support I'm getting and that's helping a lot. Thank You.
@Striker- holy crap huh, just sitting down with you this week gave me a lot of perspective on life, health, etc. That visit will definitely help my recovery.
Looks like 2-3 months of recovery... Just in time for the training window for Ironman to open up!!!
Thanks to all. I'll keep you updated.

Wow! Good to hear you're not anymore hurt than you are, that couldn't have been much fun
Wedged under the tire, incredible.
I know you'll make a quick recovery - you solo pilots are very resilient!
I hope you told that FedEx driver in your best Ice-Man impersonation "Every time you get behind the wheel of that FedEx truck, you're unsafe. I don't like you because you're dangerous."

Whack,
My thoughts and prayers are with you man. Just yesterday while on my 15 mile bike ride I had a mirror from a truck brush my arm. Freaked me out but did not knock me over. I can't imagine what happened to you. Glad to hear you are in good spirits and that you are ok. Striker and you are both very lucky to still be here with us. Let's pray nothing else happens to our team. Take care buddy!!!
