Battlefield: BC2
So, was the video you made from XP and with DX9?!Tailhook wrote:Windows XP 32-bit (about to upgrade to W7 64-bit though)
I really want to build a gaming rig too, but with a quad core i7 and add a solid GeForce 200-series card, 6GB DDR3, and Windows 7. We'll see, my current machine is really starting to show its age (I'm afraid to install BC2 and find out how bad it really is). Too bad another car insurance bill had to show up in the mailbox today when I got home, just when I felt I had enough dough to possibly spend on some toys...Tailhook wrote:I built this computer just for this game. I don't get lower than 60 fps.
Regardless, I started a new thread with the system I was thinking about:

Yes, but was made with the free version of Fraps and rendered by Movie Maker cause I don't have the HD from my old computer plugged in which has all my stuff...Lawndart wrote:So, was the video you made from XP and with DX9?!

Damn Gunner - and that's in XP 32 bit with DX9? How'd you do that?! I tried to force it with the nVidia CP as well as changing the game's config files and no luck.
Ya know, maybe I should have at least tried re-installing my video drivers before going out and getting a new HD From what I've read though, no one has been able to force it with DX9, except you.
I'm in the middle of installing SP1 to Vista on the new HD, guess I'll follow through,
Tailhook, what size monitor do you game on?
I can't imagine that resolution looking very good on anything bigger than a 19", and even then it'd look pixely! I'm very picky about anti-aliasing and having the image look crisp with smooth edges.
EVGA 780i FTW
Q9550 @ 2.83
Kingwin 1000W Mach 1 PS
2 x 2 GB G.Skill PC 8800 1100 mhz DDR2 (@ 800)
2 x EVGA GTX 280 SSC's in SLI
Seagate 500 GB & 1 TB HD - 500 GB with Vista 64 bit and XP 32 bit dual boot - the 1TB will probably also be an XP / Vista dual boot.
Viewsonic Vx2234wm 24" @ 1920 x 1080

I'm pretty unhappy at the moment. I don't understand what's going on with my framerate. It's only in the 30's in a 30+ player map with everything maxed out, 16x AA/AF and HBAO.
I'm really just not impressed by the graphics - and the anti aliasing doesn't seem to be apparent on all objects. It just doesn't look nearly good enough to be giving me only 30 FPS with my setup.
I got it installed and running on this clean install / updated Vista 64-Bit.
Running the 196.21 drivers with my GTX 280's in SLI.
They're both being utilized as evident by EVGA Precision's monitoring tool. Each looked to have a ~35 to 40% load - so they're both working to render.
Gunner, I call BS on your 65+ FPS - what's your secret?
This framerate issue seems eerily similar to the one I experienced with Operation Flashpoint 2 - it just hovered right around 30 FPS - regardless of graphics settings. After various driver changes and troubleshooting, I never did figure it out, and just gave up - $40 down the drain. I'm hoping this isn't the same thing. There's no reason this machine shouldn't have that FPS pegged at 60, completely maxed.

Yeah, I've tried on and off - the refresh rate is 60, so having it on won't affect anything, it'd just peg at 60. I can't stand playing with Vsync off anyway - the frame tearing is annoying.
Tried disabling SLI, no change - same FPS - but higher load on the card being used, up around 100%.
Changes to AA/AF or HBAO don't make any difference in the FPS - it's just kind of fixed at 35ish unless I look at the sky, then it bumps up to 50+.
I have the same kind of performance in XP 32-Bit as well. It's like it just doesn't like my hardware.
Oh well, at least I got a clean install of Windows and a 1 TB hard drive now, I'll keep looking on the net for possible solutions, so far it seems that it runs like crap for a lot of people with very powerful systems.
*EDIT* Seems that I've gained some frames by bumping my CPU up from 2.83 Ghz to 3.83. It seems pretty playable and fun now at 40+ FPS most of the time.

I just installed the game and tried for a few minutes to see if it would even be playable on my current rig... Conclusion: I need a new computer!
It's completely unplayable... even MW2 runs about ten times better with higher graphic settings. I still managed a 2/1 (K/D) ratio on a few maps just trying it out (thanks to large maps and several hiding places) and it seems like a ton of fun, but not only does it look like LEGO® for me (with XP/DX9), my frames were around 10-20 FPS too (and yes, they fluctuated that much, single digits with explosions on top of that). I guess I won't be playing BC2 for a while...
