Error Code 3

Post by lqcorsa » Wed Oct 11, 2006 11:39 am

My lock-on had a bunch of carried over mods, messed up loading screens, the works, so I decided to do a complete re-insatall. Took off 1.12, 1.1, and 1.02, then deleted my eagle dynamics folder. I installed 1.02 no problem, but when I try to install 1.1, I get:

The install encountered an error.
Error Code 3.
Install is not complete.

Then it closes. Also, I dont know if it has something to do with my screen resolution witch is 1360 x 1024 or 1280 x 1024, but while installing 1.02 again I decided to take a screenshot of something that's never happened on a lock-on install before:

All the greyish stuff is never there usually, and it does that on the FC install also. I don't have the downloaded version of LOMAC, so I don't need a patch witch was the official explanation at the lock-on.ru forums. Please can I have help here?

LQ,
I had the same exact problem when I tried to reinstall Lock-On after a mod glitch. So, I have a question.

A. Are you using Lock-On gold and use the disks?

If so, watch your installation, as it looks like it just hangs on a file, and then quits. If this happens, take your disk out and look at the bottom, odds are you have a large scratch on it! This is what happened to me, so I had to buy FC off the website.

If this is the FC FROM the website you are installing and have problems with, I would contact ED, because I have no clue then what the problem is.

It's a good lesson to ALWAYS PROTECT YOUR DISKS!!!

When you uninstall, make sure to delete all the remaining folders after the uninstallation processes are done. Also, make sure to check add/remove programs under the control panel to verify that all Lock-On entries are gone. Then, if you want to be absolutely sure, run a reg cleaner (i.e. Registry Mechanic) and have it delete any entries in the Windows registry associated with Lock-On. Then start the reinstallation process over...
  1. Install LO:MAC
  2. Install LO:FC (1.1)
  3. Run the correct patch
That's all the advice I can provide right now. In the mean time, let us know exactly what version and type of Lock-On you have (Lock-On Gold OR LOMAC disc + FC disc OR LOMAC disc + FC download etc). Unfortunately all these possible combinations have different solutions and without knowing precisely what you have, you can only get a generic answer.

Btw, good point about protecting your software discs Rhino! Bon Jobie can tell you all about that... His LO:FC disc shattered into about twenty big pieces and hundreds of small ones inside his drive only a few days ago. This was likely caused by some scratches on the surface of the disc noted before and the disc having been exposed to various temperatures while inside a soft travel sleeve for some time could have aggravated the stress of a flawed disc with damage. Now, there's the reason they sell CD's and DVD's in hard jewel cases...

I have lock-on gold, and then I download 1.12a from lockon.ru. I delete all my remaining lock-on folders, didn't I mention that I delete my eagle dynamics folder :) ? I have a reg cleaner and I've used it a couple times, I'm willing to try it again though. Rhino, thats exactly what happens to me, 1.02 installs just fine, but the last file I saw it transfer on the FC disk was a su-25t video file, then it rolls all the way back and says that error code. I'll take a look at the disks. Hope that answers your questions.

EDIT: Yay S! Lawndart, and Rhino. A good 5 minute cleaning of the disk did the trick, also I don't think it has anything to do with it but I selected a few different options on the install, I had it give me icons and I had the readme come up :? . Thank-you for your time and suggestions.

Sounds like the discs LO:FC come on are of sub-par quality. Stress fractures, scratches easily and the lasers having problems reading the disc if the coating is compromised... Treat them with care (jewel cases and soft cloth cleaning cloths)!

Missed that you had already deleted the folders LQ (I was speed reading your post), but you brought up another point. Out of curiosity, which of the 1.12a patches (CD or download) is used with Lock-On: Gold? Gold is the only version of Lock-On I'm not familiar with. Does it come with two discs (one LOMAC and one LO:FC) in the box?

LO Gold comes with disk one, basic Lock:On, and then the second disk is Flaming Cliffs.

Yup, 1.02 and 1.1. I didn't know you could get 1.12a on a CD, I thought you could only download it :? .

As far as I know (unless they've re-released LO:FC with 1.12a), you have to download 1.12a. What I meant to say, and should have spelled out, I was referring to weather you had used the 1.12a patch for the CD version or download version? Hence, there are two different patches of each kind (one for the CD and one for the download version, although they are both "downloaded").

P.S. Leave it to the Russians to make it confusing, eh!?
