I think a Predator type UAV would be a lot more difficult to land than something like this due to the much lower wing loading and wing span. This would have much better roll response and, if hooked up to the ships ILS, would probably carry out automatic landings without pilot input. Speaking as one ...

I am no closet socialist, but as I peer into my crystal ball I can see one of two things happening in the near future. 1. One or two major US airlines will collapse requiring a govt bail-out that the US can ill-afford right now, and will only extend the problems a la JAL Airways (which got bailed-ou...

Supply and demand. That is why this has happened. While there is an every-ready supply of young people prepared to work for crap wages and even crappier T & C's there will be airline companies willing to take advantage of them. Ray, Beaker, Helmet, the US pilot market is a basket case. I have had th...

I have never actually done one in real life. Closest has been a couple of Cat II's into Tokyo and once into Frankfurt.

It is good to know I can though if required.

In the A330 we can land to Cat 3b minimums, i.e. no decision height.

You just autoland.

The hardest part is finding a taxiway to leave the runway.

We can even go to Cat 3a, 50 ft decision height with an engine out.

This from wikipedia: Concerns about the F-35's performance have resulted partially from reports of RAND simulations where numerous Russian Sukhoi fighters defeat a handful of F-35s by denying tanker refueling. As a result of these issues, then Australian defence minister Joel Fitzgibbon requested a ...

The Russian aircraft are optimized for dogfighting. The US built aircraft are built around the supposition that if you find yourself in a dogfight in a stealth aircraft with AMRAAM class missiles, AWACS and tanker support, then something has already gone very badly wrong. The whole idea these days i...

It was a real shame that the the performances of both the VTB and VBA were so rudely interrupted. Both were on track to be absolute highlights of VFAT.

I don't think it has quite sunk in yet what this represents. It is another evolutionary step. If we go back through the beginnings of this hobby we have seen how the original VFTC and Virtual Thunderbirds videos proved this was possible; the VBA Big Movie and Smoke On took production standards to a ...

Credit where credit is due. This is an outstanding video from someone who is evidently able to fly all the positions to a show standard. The amount of work that has gone into this is incredible and I for one thoroughly enjoyed it.
