Without giving away the answer right off the bat, here's a link to another thread in our forums basically explaining what the check is for... "Check" this! I could give you a more detailed answer for the reason why the Slot pilot performs this type of check (in addition to the Solos, who als...

Comms question...

I was watching "Reach for the Sky" again last night and during the Nellis show (in the "Special Features" section) just after the Diamond take-off, the formation does a smoke check, then Boss says " Four, Go _______ Check" and Four then breaks away from the formation... then a few seconds later, he ...

Re: Saitek X65F - One word: AWESOME!

I think what I'll probably do is just plug it all up like normal, but hide the stick in the cabinet next to my desk, and then just use the throttle... I'll then disable the X axis & Y axis and assign the Z-axis for the throttle. Then I'll keep the Saitek stick, hide the throttle to that, and disable...

Re: Saitek X65F - One word: AWESOME!

I like the throttle just fine... but unfortunately the stick was junk from the day I got it. That's why Raytheon quit using them in the UCS... (that's where I got mine). They kept a bunch of the throttles though, so that leads me to believe that someone there has created some sort of USB adapter. Th...

That's odd because even with gloves on, I can feel everything on both the stick and throttle... the buttons are easily pressed and the ministicks are easy to manipulate. There's definitely a crisp sensation when pushing any of the buttons, for me at least. I think the placement is very good too... I...

Saitek X65F - One word: AWESOME!

My new Saitek X65F arrived today and after about one hour of using it, I can safely say that this puppy is definitely a keeper! I haven't tried it in LOMAC yet, but in FSX, it works flawlessly! I'll try and give a mini review here because I know you guys (and girls) are gonna wanna know about feel a...

Haha yea it's a great movie - like you say it just has that captivating/immersive feel. That shot is also one of my favorites as well, "Burners on now". I really like Harley's calls. I get a kick out of Steve's dirty loop and the commentary. "Steve's vertical!" Boss: "Alright he shouldn't have any ...

I think THRESHOLD is probably my all-time favorite too! 2nd would be RFTS and then "A Year In the Life". Maybe it's just me, but I think one of the reasons I like "THRESHOLD" so much is that it almost feels kind of like a "dream"... not like "RFTS" or "AYINTL"... it's more "artistic" in its presenta...

Oh Threshold: The Blue Angels Experience is absolutely outstanding! My favorite part of the video has to be when the solo is talking about the opposing passes and says: "Normally in let's say in a Knife Edge pass we'll cross within one wingspan of one another...20-30ft apart. But occasionally if th...

Also - and forgive me for going slightly off topic here- another video I recently stumbled upon that is a MUST SEE: Threshold: The Blue Angels Experience! I saw that in a very old thread, Lawndart made mentioned of it... I just got it last week and I've watched it at least 4 or 5 times since I got i...

I own the DVD and soundtrack for this movie... I consider it to be THE quintessential film for aviation enthusiasts! I captures the very essence of what we all love about flying... and centers it around Van Nuys. My brother went to film school with Brian Terwilliger. He's a great guy and very passio...

Beaker is right! It's an instantaneous 7Gs, not a sustained 7Gs. 8) Secondly, the G is not used as a primary reference in this case, but for controlling how quickly the nose is pulled up to 22.5 degrees (which is the primary target parameter in this case). Not quite 7Gs and the onset was too slow. ...
